I was naturally skeptical when TV3 completed its takeover of Channel 6, and I was positively livid when they immediately canceled the one show I had regularly tuned into, Night Shift, with the gorgeous, Donegal-accented Michelle Doherty.
So I have to say I'm humbled, having found that the re-launched station is broadly better than its predecessor. TV3 unashamedly modeled 3e on the UK's E4, owned by Channel 4. It's basically that station's entertainment wing, offering repeats of the best shows on the parent channel and a bunch of re-runs of American shows like Friends and Seinfeld and delayed version of US series like Dexter, House and American Dad.
Nevertheless, 3e always appears as if it's produced on a budget. E4 at least has that zany announcer who fills the gap between shows - 3e is just cold. The quality of the imported programming is good, but you'll rarely find yourself watching it for long periods of time.
As much as I hate TV3, their sister station 3E (formerly channel 6) is actually pretty good. Even though they show mainly American imports, it still broadcasts some of the best comedy available on terrestrial viewing.
It's all about Friends, The Office and Family Guy on 3E, which no-one is going to watch devoutly, but always good if you come by them on a channel surf.
Credit where credit is due... Irish television really didnt have a dedicated Entertainment Channel...but correct me if im wrong but i was pretty sure TV3 was supposed to be an entertainment channel when it started it, it royaly screwed that up, but who are we to deny them a second chance at it.
This station has a lot of the shows we all like to watch, Family Guy, Dexter, 30 Rock, with a good bit of filler thrown in. They have also thrown in the UEFA cup or Europa Cup or whatever they are calling it these days. . oh you will be entertained..
