went here with my GFs and it was nice enough . i had called ahead the night before and tried to book a table for 6 of us and the waiter said they only do bookings for 'large parties' and we could just 'walk right in'. when we walked in the waitress wasnt sure she could fit us in so that irked me a bit.

we got a table downstairs and waited 15 mins before the waiter came over. i had to flag him down. after we ordered our drinks we waited another 10 mins for him to arrive and take our order. he gave us a pen and told us to circle what we wanted on the menu. remember when waiters used to write down their orders? (im talking to you, crackbird peeps)

we then had to flag him down again to come and collect our order...he then made sure i still had his pen, which i understand cos im a waitress but jesus, get more than one pen.  all in all from the time we sat down to the time we got our orders in it had been 40 mins.

the food was ok enough - i eat at the porthouse so knew what to expect. we then got dessert and tea/coffee. my friend had  to order her tea 3 times. the first time he forgot it altogether. the second time he brought just a pot of water with no cup. the 3rd time he rbought the cup....but no tea bag. finally she got what she asked for after a wiatress had argued with us over what was order. " he only told me he needed this and that etc etc

just get the tea. that's what good waitresses do.

when we got up to pay the waiter asked me at the counter where his pen was (we used it again to figure out the bill) i asked him why he didnt have another one....since he's a waiter and all.

the place is nice and the food is ok but the service as usual threw me off.

Have been here several times, and as I think I mentioned elsewhere, also to the sister restaurant (Port House). For some reason forgot to include a review - so briefly - here goes.

It shares with the Port House the slightly "dark" theme internally (as in, not loads of light, as opposed to sombre :-). Could be off putting for some, but I like it.

Menu is pretty good, with a nice range of hot and cold tapas, as well as "pintxos" - the little snacks that are typically served from the counter and are often on bread. I really like the "Standards" - such as whitebait, chorizo-in-red-wine, anything fish related, and of course, patatas bravas. All reasonably priced as well. You (well I) have a tendency to try and order too much - but now after several visits I seem to have got the dimensioning about right - perhaps 6-7 items between two seems about right.

Wine list is good, and the staff very helpful on choosing, if you're not used to Spanish wines.

Really like the atmosphere in here, whether dining for two or with a larger gang. It's just very well executed casual dining that won't break the bank.

If you go to Pintxo, make sure you always get the same thing, not everything on the menu is good.
I always take more or less the same dishes, which are very good (authentic, not sure, but very good food)
It's a brilliant place for wine.
This is what you should get if you go: the gambas pil-pil, outstanding. The chorizo al vino (although sometimes it comes a bit too greasy), the chickpeas with black pudding and spinach, the goat cheese salad with honey and almonds...
I had the paella once and it was not worth it. Stay away from the meatballs, and the chicken definitely wasn't running in the fields yesterday.
The atmosphere is a bit of a problem. It's cramped and the music is way too loud. If you sit outside in the winter (is there any other season by the way?) there's a chance you will have hot air blowing in your face.
They also don't take reservations, which is a major pain.
All in all: average, some of the food is good, wine is good, but will you have a good time? It depends.

I'd agree with the general consensus on this place. The food I had there was really tasty and I enjoyed it but the service left something to be desired. I was there with my mother who couldn't even read the menu it was so dark and she is by no means losing her sight! We were served by three different people which was slightly confusing and while the two women who served us were polite and friendly there was an air of pomp about the man who served us. The toilets were pretty horrific when I was there and I have been known to say you can judge a place on the bathroom! It was badly signed for starters leaving me standing around looking for something to tell me I was going in the right direction, then I wasn't sure if I'd accidentally wandered into the ladies and lastly is was in dire need of some cleaning! In theory, having a throne as a toilet is great, in reality.... not so much...
All that said, the food was very very tasty, especially the chick peas with black pudding which I've had before and loved, but I'd be hesitant to return due to the poor service in the place

I like this place. A nice big selection of good Spanish wines; plenty-good-but-not-stellar tapas; enough for vegetarians, and probably even vegans if I were being strict.  The server Monday night didn't seem to be that knowledgeable about the wines, but, apparently eager to please, offered me a small taste of two options I was considering, which made up it.

Patio seating out back, sheltered from the Irish weather, with heat vents, even -- which are a nice touch unless you're seated on the right-hand wall, directly across from them, so they're blowing hot air straight in your face.

Between the cute venue, good wine, and nice food, I'll be keeping this on my list of places to come back to when I'm in Dublin.

I am massive fan of tapas anyways - see review of sister venue Port of House on South William St.- so it was inevitable that we would end up in here some evening..! Love this place for a glass and/or bottle of wine, really relaxed setting, and the most *indoor* smoking area I have seen in a while... (in Ireland that is!).
Food is great, never put a foot wrong so far, but then I pretty much order the same thing everytime.... whitebait and the seafood paella....both delicious! My other half was a little disappointed to see that they dont have lamb on the menu, like their sister branch, but there is plenty more to choose from!
Staff are generally running around like crazy, always so busy, but always friendly.
    Will no doubt be back!

We popped in here on Friday night for some soakage before hitting up culture night and some pubs. It was delicious! Prices are very reasonable and the staff were for the most attentive. We had only one gripe - the server changed just before desert and she seemed to forget us at first, and then brought out my desert a good five to ten minutes before my companion's. Other than that we had no complaints and would go back again!

Did a brilliant job of getting tapas terribly, terribly wrong.

I went in there willing myself to like it - it always looks so cool whenever I walk past, but unfortunately everything was pretty poor.

Myself and the girlfirend had around 30e worth of food to share, and nothing too complex (meatballs, chicken, patatas bravas etc), but all of it was nearly inedible. Meatballs MUST be from a can, as another yelper pointed out - horrible squishy things bathed in what must have been tesco value ketchup. Rest of the stuff was greasy and had that "eddie-rockets-sink-to-the-bottom-of-your-stomach- immediately" effect...which is fine when you stumble into eddie rockets after a night on the sauce, but not in a place like this!!

We complained, waiter was suitably rude and blamed us for "not liking things" (WHAT?!), manager was very helpful to his credit and offered us a halfprice refund - which we gratefully accepted.

Didn't even have the delicious pagoa basque beer in stock - oh dear.

Reading through these reviews, maybe I just got really unlucky, but my experience has soured my view enough to not want to go back.

We only came here for dessert and wine.  Great spot for that at 10:30pm where the rest of the town is closed.  It hit the spot, but it is an ok spot to grab some dessert.  The ambiance is really nice, though.  We didn't try any other of the dishes but it did look good.

The service was friendly - the waiter chatted us a bit since we were from out of town.

Visually striking and exciting. Moody, sexy; a bit New England beach house meets Vamp wine cellar.
A bit of everything and everyones you fancy, I love tapas and food here pretty good except for some truly atrocious meatballs
Like most other reviewers I have to comment on the loos but only the guys will notice that where floor light positioned can create funky personal light display...
Overall think bit too style over substance. Fun, average value and fine food. Glad tried it but wouldn't rush to go back

I have been raven about this place all day today to work colleagues  as it was my first visit last night. So have decided to bring it to the world of Yelp.

A friend and I had visited this place on a whim. Had walk past it several times but never really took any notice of it. I was pleasantly surprised by it. The food was amazing and it was very reasonably priced.

As it was a school night I didn't tease myself by checking out the wine list but that will be my treat for the weekend when I take a few friends back there.

Made it to this place about 1 1/2 years ago and loved it!
Despite the dark and candlelight, I appreciated the warmth of the setting.  I came with my boyfriend for New Year's Eve dinner.  He, being Spanish, jumped for joy when tasting the dishes; he was definitely pleased at the authenticity.

Even though, we were in Dublin for short and did not want to repeat experiences; we did, however, try to come back to Bar Pintxos.  It was just such a great experience for both of us and food, wine, and service was great!

I've had several delicious meals at Pintxos. You can order tapas as you go, and slowly enjoy your wine (especially the 2007 Vallado Duoro). There's no rushing in this place! I have generally ordered three tapas and that's quite enough for a full meal, without room for dessert.

The ambiance is a bit dark, but candlelit, which creates quite a mellow mood. The coed bathroom is one of the most amazing I've ever seen - the words "throne" and "goth" and "Elvis" all come to mind. In fact, I'd recommend the place simply to see the bathroom!

The service is attentive without being aggressive, and I heartily recommend trying out Pintxos.

While you might consider bringing a torch - Pintxos relies heavily on candlelight - you will definitely enjoy yourself in this atmospheric Spanish tapas bar. The little dishes are delicious - my favourites include the patatas bravas (cubed fried potatoes, but don't they sound much healthier in Spanish?), the meat and bread selection and the chorizo al vino. The tables are close together, so try to sit beside a couple who look like they are on the verge of breaking up - it enlivens things no end. Make sure to feel your way cautiously to the fabulous bathroom, which is done up like a fabulous bordello.

One note of caution, all that decadent candlelight means that it's hard to see just how much wine/food you are actually ingesting, so you may just have to be rolled out.

This tapas bar could have so much potential. The place itself has atmosphere, with nice seating inside and outside (also heated). They have a large selection of quality wines. But unfortunately the food really sucks. The meatballs they serve must be out of a can, they're so disgusting it's like a slap in the face. The paella looks and tastes like sawdust. It was sad, and I'd have to be dragged to give them another try.

WE really enjoyed Pintxos. After walking around for over 30 minutes looking for a place to eat we settled on this place based on the menu/prices. What did we get: chicken paella, meatballs, octopus and potatoes bravas. of course dessert was a chocolate fudge cake slice! Everything was very tasty and more food than we expected. even though it was tapas the portions were great for the price we paid. our favorite was the octopus and teh chicken paella. It was almost too dark in the restaurant but it did have a nice ambience. The server was so-so. but the dessert was just what I wanted. Chocolate cake with a layer of hot fudge in the middle. We enjoyed the experience and would go back to try different tapas for the price- can't beat it.

Locations is deadly and the interior is beautiful! (Check out the bathrooms!)
Food is definitely tasty (juicy chorizo) but could be way cheaper. In fact should be a LOT cheaper! This kind of food could be served pretty damn inexpensively in a place that spent less on decor!

Everything about this place looks fantastic from it's fancy facade and sparkling sign, it's romantic candle-lit interior to its quasi urban outside area at the back and boudoir-style bathroom. Alas, the operative word here is LOOKS, I'm afraid.
I'll admit the menus and wine list are extensive and impressive but when it comes to the crunch, I thought it talked the talk but, unfortunately didn't walk the walk.
I called in early one Saturday Evening and was the second table in there. I asked the waiter what beers they had and was told they were in the back of the wine list. Turns out there was only three beers and seeing as this is the sister of the Porterhouse franchise, I was a bit upset at his lack of helpfulness.
I looked to the back of the wine list and decided to try a Pagoa Baigorri red, a lovely red ale and then had a look over the tapas menu finally settled that I was to have the Caldereta de Caldero, a spicy lamb stew with hot smoked paprika, peppers and garlic and patatas bravas.
Then I waited.....watched 2 ladies come in, clean their own tables, get their own placemats and wait....so I waited more, getting annoyed by my full ashtray and the lemon wedge on the floor...and waited more. Eventually, my order was taken and my cold beer was promptly delivered to the table.
When the food came out, it looked great (there's that word again) but the "spicy rich" lamb stew was basically...lamb stew, a struggle to eat with a fork, couple of peppers, not spicy, nothing special. The Patatas Bravas, as Bravas go were alright but again, lacklustre and nothing special.
          In  a nutshell;
    staff and service..... pants
    Food..........................not fascinatingly good at all
Overall experience..disappointed I chose there instead of anywhere
                                       else to eat before work

Oh so good. If you're one of those indecisive kinds of people (of which I am a proud member), then tapas really should be right up your alley...you can have a taste of anything and everything, without really putting all your eggs in one basket (which, if we're honest, is essentially what terrifies us - what if there's something better out there?!).
Pintxos is perfect. A bit dark (it's totally candle-lit at the tables - great for atmosphere, not so great if you're not 20-20) and I would say it could get a bit cramped if it's busy but it's still got just the right amount of 'Spanish' to make you feel like you're in a classy joint in Barcelona.
The food is really, REALLY good (especially the chicken,  and the chick peas and black pud!), and there's more than enough to share (or not.)
Wine is decently priced and the staff are typically Mediterranean - no rush, no hassle. Definitely a good place for a cheap-ish meal out in town.
