Very authentic Portugese / fish in Mainz. Not fancy
Family fish restaurant. Very, very basic decor. Plastic tablecloths, TV blaring Portugese TV shows on the wall. Family owned so the whole family is serving you. The fish is very fresh and the food very authentic and well prepared. Excellent value for money. Bottle of Vinho Verde for €11 !!!
Not a "first date place" as it's not fancy. But def a foodie destination. They take only cash, and you better like garlic. Get's crowded around 1900 most every day.
Highly recommended.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 02 Apr 2012Previous reviewAuthentic Portugese, good fish, casual, excellent value for money. Got a tip from someone married to a Portugese fellow. Turned out to be a great tip. This is primarily a fish place, just like you'd find on vacation. Not swanky (this is not a first date place) plastic tablecloth, communal seating, Portugese TV in the background. I had grilled dorado with garlic potatoes perfect. Date had Gambas. Also an appetizer of bread with homemade aioli. A bottle of Vinho Verde cost only EUR11 !! Fish was very fresh and well prepared. Price was extremely reasonable as the whole shebang ran to EUR39 including a bottle of wine. Probably why the place was packed on a Saturday early evening. Will be returning soon. officially my new favorite fish place in Rhein-Main Gebiet.
