It used to be the "Schwarze Adler" - a long time ago an inn, at times of ill repute, then a place to go have a beer and meet people with no culinary pretences, but these times are gone.
"Puppel" used to be a wine merchant in the Hauptstraße a few years back, but now this has changed as well.
Both traditions combine in the "Weinhaus Puppel". The place cannot deny its origins which lie foremost in the wine trade. One can taste wine and then decide to drink it there or order it by the crate and have it delivered home. All the wines are available in 1dl glasses, which is a clear indication that more than one wine should be tasted.
The menu is almost an afterthought, its almost curt, a few exquisite snacks consisting of cheese and speciality hams, a soup or two, a salad. One or two more substantial dishes are on offer, they change almost daily and are only written on the board.
The atmosphere is calm and collected, clear lines and contrasts. The walls are lined with shelves of wine, sorted according to places or origin. Notably absent are South African wines, which could be bought at "Puppel" long before it became acceptable to drink them.
- Qype User (viktor…)Frankfurt, Germany017 Mar 2011
I visited this Restaurant last Saturday with my friend and her newborn child.
At the beginning everything was fine and we ordered our food. My friend had to breastfeed the baby and since there was no possibility to change her diaper in the restroom, she did it under the table in the sofa. Suddenly the owner of the Restaurant comes out and tells us that "This is a Restaurant so it is not apropriate which such actions" as changing a diper from a newborn, it doesn't smell at all! The behaviour from the owner was very rude and when he came out again my friend told him that she had no possibility to do it somewhere else. Than he was rude again and meant that his restaurant was no place for children. We left and I feel sorry for the sweet waitress! It was very clear that if you have children you're not welcome to Weinhaus Puppel!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
