What a hoot! Our Viking Splash Tour guide had me/us in stitches! He was very entertaining! I highly recommend the tour if only to get a good laugh and to work out any stress in the form of 'Hagar the Horrible' yells at unassuming Celts. AAArrrggghhh....! Yeah, this tour is good for the soul! A lot of laughter and yelling in a 'safe environment' (i.e. big yellow boat-ish thingie on wheels) never hurt anyone!
As for the information aspect of it, well, one can glean little tidbits here and there. But, you are moving relatively quickly through the City and there is a bit of a noise factor; so, don't plan on this activity as a reference for your Irish history research paper. However, most will walk away with a few new things learned!
Go with a friend. Go with a group of buddies. Maybe have a drink beforehand and then board the yellow contraption and enjoy the ride. You will likely learn a little something and you will very likely laugh a lot ... but, at minimum, you will finally be able to don a horned helmet!
Aaarrrggghhh....!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cristin L.Dublin3601029193028 Aug 2013
AAAARGH!! CELTS!! AAAARGH!!
What an excellent tour the Viking Splash tour.
Climbing on board we found a Viking hat on each seat, yay! Our tour guide, Viking Bill went through all the safety precautions, while maintaining the entertainment factor. And then we set off!
CELTS!! AAAARGH!!
We laughed, smiled, waved and shook our fists all around the city. It really was a hoot. To see the reaction of some of the celts (AAAARGH!!!) as we drove past was priceless. From broad smiles, to bemusement, to "what-the...", to pretending we were not there. Hilarious.
I did think at times the driver was rushing a bit, but maybe the tour normally goes fast in some places to make up for time lost in traffic? That said, the guide was immensely humorous, the highlights being the Lady in Red and Chelsea guy. He also had some great information and history to tell along the way. There was a good mix of laughs, while not getting too serious with the the history lesson. Thanks Bill.
We didn't get to splash due to unforeseen circumstances. Maybe next time.

Wow what a fun tour.....full of laughs, shouts, pedestrian participation along with some fun interesting facts about our fair city. At first you feel silly with the horned helmets and awkward shouting at passers by....but after a few minutes you ease into the roll of the Viking shouting at the Celts!!!
My only qualm is that there could be move tourist fact about our Dublin.
I would definitely recommend this tour for families, friends and foes (arrgghhhh Celts)!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Conor L.Dublin897812428 Aug 2013
(Great for adults and kids a like. Very funny and educational. Totally worth it)
AAAARGGHH....CELTS!!!
Excellent tour. The tour guide had me in stitches for the entire trip. Monies worth right there alone. Very funny!
The tour is excellent and by wearing the horned viking helmets, shaking your fists and roaring at all of the unsuspecting people (celts) that we passed along the way, it really gets everyone excited and makes for a great tour. It was great to see so many people roar back at us as we went by or jump in surprise when we all roared at them.
I learned a lot about all of the different buildings in Dublin and about the old viking settlements.
I would highly recommend this tour if you have kids, as it would be the highlight of their Dublin trip.
Definitely gets a two thumbs up from me :-)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shelley O.Dublin4815613729 Aug 2013Updated review
I have to say I had a great time on the Viking Splash Tour!
At first I was a bit non-commital on going, did I really want to be one of those "people"
shouting at people as they are going about thier business around town? At first thought no..and then I gave myself a good talking to! So off we went.
CELTS!!! AGGRRHHHHH!!!!
The guide, while maybe not giving us as much info as possible, was hilarious! He had that way of saying things that just made them funny. His interactions with people on the street was a gas! I laughed a lot and am so glad I went. While I have been to almost every street we were on I did learn some things about them that I didn't know. It was interesting to be in rush hour traffic and not be in a rush. It was also really interesting to see the Celts reactions, the vast majority of them smiled or laughed, some insolent Celts even roared back! I think we even scared a poor child, lol.
When my grandson is older I'll definatly take him on it, I'd also take any vistors which might come our way.
Also maybe I'll smile and roar back at them from now on.
Hang on..if I'm walking around am I a Viking because I've been on the tour or am I a Celt???Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 029 Aug 2013Previous reviewI have to say I had a great time on the Viking Splash Tour!

A quick stop at the Dawson Lounge rounded off the even nicely. Was great to meet a few new people as well! - Eamonn O.Dublin154929 Aug 2013
Hear me ROOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put 20 plus (I was gonna say 20 odd) yelpers in an amphibian longship wearing horns and you just know it's gonna be a blast. What a way to celebrate my elevation to elitehood.
I have to admit that for somethign I would have thought of as a "tourist" gimmick, it was an enjoyable ride, even if we didn't get to go in the water.
The driver was witty, in that certain Irish self deprecating way, and seemed knowledgable. I agree with previos reviews that this si not a historical tour and the information comes in snippest, but driving around Dublin, even through the 30 KPH zones, does not leave a lot of time for lectures on each site.
The sojourn in the Dawson Lounge afterwards, excellt pint of Guinness. was also good craic, and as always, great to meet new people and to re-meet yelpers from previous events.
Thanx Emily & Yelp for a great midweek evening.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Petra B.Dublin7722549728 Aug 2013
I always wondered how I would like to be on a Viking Splash Tour and was very pleasantly surprised how much fun it is.
The guide loved the odd banter with us and passers by and it was great to see everybody enjoying it - especially people not expecting to get involved. What's better than laughter? Learning something new about Dublin while laughing :-)
Pity we didn't have the time to go into the pond but I suppose that just means I get to do the tour again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah T.Dublin16421128 Aug 2013First to Review
This was my third time on the Viking Splash Tours but the fact that I've had three different guides means I just can't get sick of it. It's always more fun with a large crowd so it was a great choice for a Yelp event. This tour is all about a good atmosphere and the delightful devilment of grown adult 'Vikings' roaring down at passing 'Celts', which today's outing had in spades. What you learn about the city on your travels can end up being incidental.
Today's guide was big on jokes and banter and a little light on information about the areas we passed through than other guides I'd had. I personally prefer more of a balance but I think he was just playing up to the crowd that was there, which is his job. He was definitely very entertaining.
Tip: although it was pretty warm this evening, it's generally a good idea to bring something to wrap yourself up in, as you are in an open air vehicle for over an hour. And as we saw today, the rain clouds can come in fairly fast and the canopy leaves a few seats uncovered! But sure, 'twas only a few drops.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elisha C.Dublin5715031428 Aug 2013
Well this was a different type of yelp event! I've been on the Viking Splash tour once before and had a great time. It's definitely worth a trip whether you're a tourist or a local!
You're bound to have a laugh with the guide. This one was full of banter and gave plenty of laughs. Learned a few bits of interesting info along the way and got to embarrass a few bystanders by yelling as we passed by ;)
An al round enjoyable evening!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael S.Dublin905510228 Aug 2013
I've been wanting to do this since I first saw the characteristic yellow trucks drive around town - and that must have been over a decade ago. So I was thrilled when I got invited to the Elite Event.
We got on board, got handed our viking helmets and off we went. I felt like Vicky the Viking as my helmet kept slipping down my head. My main highlight of the trip was the driver who was never short of a joke and managed to mention every single sight of Dublin that we passed (quite hectic sometimes trying to catch the sight he justr mentioned, but I learned a couple of things about Dublin that I didn't know.
I'd definitely recommend it to any tourist/visitor since you actually pass most of Dublins inner-city tourist attractions (main exception probably the Guinness brewery) and half fund roaring at innocent by-standers along the way.
I'm glad I did it and would do it again! Thanks for inviting me!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
