Review from Alex D.
Farrington's is doing its best to forge a bit of an identity for itself amidst the masses of samey pubs and bars that populate Temple Bar, and it's doing so by buying into the city's growing craft beer scene.
I went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago (I've lived less than 5 mins away from it for years now, but I always assumed it was the same level of crap as The Quays and other tourist traps around the corner) and I was pleasantly surprised.
It's a pretty cosy and welcoming environment, decently laid out, and the lads behind the bar were friendly. They have a pretty large range of Irish craft beers on tap (alongside all the usual piss-poor suspects) and a couple of good-quality craft imports (they had BrewDog's Punk IPA pouring when I was in). Their bottle selection was good too - around 40 or 50 bottles ranging from Belgian Trappist brews to highly rated Scandinavian beers such as Nogne O.
They've also had the good idea of a 'customer tap' - if you buy a pint from said tap, then you can vote for what beer you want to see come on next...nice idea guys!
Prices were higher than other craft beer joints near by (Porterhouse/B&C for example), but that's to be expected given its location I suppose. And I heard that all Irish craft beers are only 4 quid Monday-Wednesday - bonus.
Fair play to Farrington's for trying something a bit different, when it would be so easy to keep shoveling out crap for 6 quid a pint...other pubs of Temple Bar take note! -

After my planned stay at the Abbey Hotel was stalled by it's closure (not that they informed me...they just never responded to my change requests so I had a friend in Dublin go by)...I had to scramble to find a new place. Enter Farrington's in Temple Bar.
You can't ask for a more centrally located place...it literally is right in the middle of the Temple Bar area...just a block from "the" Temple Bar! The rooms are up above the pub...and to be honest, I never heard a peep from the pub below...but I think it was drowned out by the noise from the place across the corner! That said, I fully expected noise...I WAS after all in the middle of the hoppingest place in Dublin at night!
The room was modern and comfortable...and quiet (aside from the 3 am screamers across the way)...and the pub downstairs had great food at great prices. Overall...I'm really glad that the Abbey flaked out...I got the better end of the deal and when I go back to Dublin...I'll stay at Farrington's! -

The rating is not a reflection of the staff or the pub necessarily, but of the pub goers. My friends and I wandered in looking to enjoy a pint and some live music on a Sunday afternoon. As we approached what appeared to be vacant stools at the bar a man came out of no where, shouted at us and laid claim of the stools. The atmosphere was quite loud and I didn't hear him clearly so I asked, "what?" and he said what I thought I misheard, "not for your kind." I was appalled. Needless to say we quickly left. Fortunately, most of my visit to Dublin has been pleasant and everyone has been incredibly friendly, but I can't say that I'll ever feel safe stepping foot inside Farrington's.

I was in Farringtons for the first time recently on the recommendation of a friend who came with me - she loves the place. We had a great spot sitting at the big window at the front - great for people-watching in Temple Bar!
The staff were all lovely and helpful. Both of us had the traditional fish and chips which was truly delicious - sometimes I find battered fish a little heavy or greasy but this was light and tasty.
A great place to go before a performance in the nearby Project Arts Centre or the IFI. -

I'm afraid I disagree with the yelpers who class this as a typical temple bar pub for numerous factors..
* most of the clientele are locals and not stag parties/hen do's
*It's not over-priced
*The staff are really, really pleasant and take interest in serving you rather than acting like beer dispensers like the staff in other temple bar pubs.
Hanging baskets and vines are typically temple bar? Aren't a lot of pubs in ireland?
I think Farringtons is a great place for an early evening pint. Up or downstairs. The meal portions are huge and not too economically damaging to your pocket money either.
I loved the seats at the big windows where you can enjoy your pint in peace while watching the buzzing world of Temple Bar pass you by. Try it, I dare you -

Of course this one is going to be a massive tourist pub - it's right in the middle of Temple Bar.
But it's a pleasant enough place to sink a pint or two. There are some cute tables and chairs out the back. They serve food here but not until too late - I think only until about 9pm - I mention this because we missed out once, and were a little put out :-(
You will always catch an Irish trad tune as you pass by this pub, no matter what time of the day or night - must drive the staff crazy!!! -

Stayed at Farrington's for a couple nights in Nov. 2010. Great location right in the heart of Temple Bar. Music from the pub downstairs plays all night, but we were prepared for that. Room was small, modern, comfortable, clean and had free wifi. The pub serves great food and has great service as well. Great value all around, would stay again!

I can't really say much about this bar because nothing about it stood out from any of the other ones in Temple Bar that I went to. It was overly crowded, but had good (overpriced) drinks. I stayed here for a Bulmer's and left.

Dublin
A typical Temple Bar pub - red front with ivy vines and hanging baskets obscuring the front windows, trad music blaring through the door at all times of the day or night, and decent if pricey pub grub like Irish Stew, roast of the day, and beef and Guinness pie.

Enjoyed lunch here. Wife had tuna melt, I had steak and Guinness pie. Came at night music was typical Temple Bar, just a little Irish and a lot American. Still a good place to grab a bite.
