We booked Frankies on the recommendation from a friend.
There were 8 of us and we had the early sitting on a Saturday evening. Firstly the staff were very helpful, and did not rush us despite some of our party arriving late. As we were a group we had the set menu (€30 standard and €40 with fillet steak).
There is a good choice, including 1 vegetarian main course, and several starters. I had the buffalo mozzarella, followed by the fillet steak, which was cooked very well; I like my steak rare which can be hard to get in Dublin, great fries too! The complimentary side dishes were plentiful, so much so that we didn't get through everything! The deserts were very good, and we had no complaints.
The restaurant has undergone a decent refurb since its Fitzers days, which is no bad thing. Overall an enjoyable evening. -

What's in a name? A big bill.
Price: I don't mind splashing out when going out if the food is actually worth it. In this instance, Frankies is putting too much value in the 'name' and not enough in the quality of food.
Atmosphere: Tacky. A mish-mash of an attempt to be classy while maintaining a pseudo-70s disco theme. The music ambiance was dreadful and a disco ball? It appeared of a designer trying too hard.
Food: The food was ok. T.G.I.F. quality.
Service: The service was very nice. We were well looked after and treated accordingly.
Tip 1: You can get a loyalty card from their website. It entitles you to 10% off. I live in city centre and it took 2 days to get the card posted to me.
Tip 2: There is an annoying service charge (12.5%) on groups of 6+(which according to our waitress, doesn't go in their pockets.) Service charges are just another way of squeezing the customer. I have complete contempt for restaurant owners who feel compelled to shake down groups. You shouldn't be punished for bringing all your friends and colleagues to an establishment.
My experience:
Five colleagues and myself organised a dinner here. We were celebrating and in good humour.
The different martinis and cocktails offered were fun and colourful. Typical Temple Bar prices. The wine selection was decent.
Each of us had our own starter, which happened to be a small plate of 'spicy' chicken wings. The wings were not that spicy and were quite bony. I love eating chicken wings, but nothing puts me off them more than when the bones start breaking in your mouth. It wasn't that any of us were biting the bones, they'd just snap in your mouth while you were trying to skim what little meat was on the wings. Seriously, this was an insult to chicken wings. Perhaps they were pigeon wings? They weren't spicy and while I expect that in Dublin, I don't expect that from a Marco Pierre White establishment. It could of done with a bit of Louisiana sauce. This starter was about 7 Euros.
The main was an 8 oz steak fillet. Medium rare at 27.50 Euros. It was said to come with steak cut chips. What arrived was an 8 oz steak with a portion of very small chips. These were definitely not steak chips. These weren't even wedges. These were tiny sliced morsels of spuds. The steak itself was okeh - nothing to rush back to, but nothing to run away from. The child's handful of mini-chips gave the impression they just were not trying. -

Very pleasant ambience, friendly, experienced staff. Food is well presented and tastes good. The fact that it's a Marco Pierre restaurant, I expected a whole lot more. My expectations increased dramatcially but I wasn't blown away by the food. It has an American feel to it ! I like it, relaxed and cool I probably would go back again.

This is Frankie Dettori's restaurant in Temple Bar. It used to be Fitzers and now it's a partnership with Marco Pierre White.
It's really nice and they've maximised the outdoor area which is always good. They have pasta, burgers and grilled food, lunch and early bird menus too. I don't need to say much but just to give you a picture of the food:
Marco's Brushetta €6.95 - garlicy tomatoey goodness
Fried egg, bacon & cheese burger €10.95 - my kind of burger
Chocolate mousse €6.95 - an oldie but a goodie -

Terrible,terrible ,terrible.
Probably our own fault for venturing intoTemple Bar for food, but who knew that a restaurant Marco Pierre White put his name to could be sooooo bad?
Not being able to get into The Elephant and Castle (for a change)and having a very hungry husband in tow we decided to try this 'steakhouse' on Friday night. To cut a long boring story short- never again.
Some of the highlights-Recooked, doublefried driedout chicken wings ; A 'salad' of just one type of lettuce as an alternative to the ubiquitous chips, drenched in 100% vinegar ( when I complained about the dressing I was offered another portion of SAME tastless salad with SAME dressing on the side...hmmmm) ; A disappointing overcooked burger with the tiniest piece of bacon possibly ever seen by man and one tiny lettuce leaf for a BLT Burger ; And a Goats cheese and Beetroot Salad with no Beetroot!!
Only good thing about whole experience was the staff, who were attentive and professional all evening.
Avoid. At. All. Costs. Wait the hour for the table in the Elephant and Castle.
Frankies is frankly not worth your visit.
