Freddie Mercury's Studio

We walked blocks and blocks to get to this spot to see where Freddie Mercury's last residence and studio was in London. There isn't much to see but a high wall painted in anti graffiti paint.

There isn't much to see or do, no tour to take - therefore it was just an okay experience for me. The highlight was the memories that sprung to mind when being in this place.

I was able to get here in foot but the sun had gone down, I'm sure it would be more interesting during day light time.

I went to visit Freddie's final haunt more for sentiment than expecting to see some great tribute, or anything much more than a vandalised door and some bricks (as the previous Yelp pictures suggested).

I was pleasantly surprised that it seems a compromise has been reached between vandalism and tribute; the bricks directly beside that famous door - now redecorated with 'Garden Lodge' printed on it - are covered in perspex but fans have slipped through letters, notes, doodles, all full of so much love.

In reality, Freddie was a private man and I doubt he'd want a shrine (he objected to the place being turned into a museum, apparently) but to see the love people still hold for him nearly 25 years on is beautiful.

My sentiments were fulfilled, and I respectfully left listening to 'I'm Going Slightly Mad'. Just around the corner (I kid you not) I bumped into a person dressed as a life-size can of paint. I was already wondering if 'slightly' wasn't quite appropriate for me but that just proved it - hah!

Worth going for the sentiment alone, if you're sentimental like that. You won't be bowled over by what you see but more what you feel, if you're that way inclined.

Tucked away in a small back street in Kensington, this is the house where Freddie Mercury lived and died.
You can't really see much (hence the rating) but people manage to leave their messages on the wooden door and the walls of the property.

I have just discovered Freddie this past year (2013) and OMG what a talent the world lost when Freddie died. He was also a good man and a great friend to others. I think people are expecting to see another Graceland type home when they visit London. They just do not understand that this is a private residence just as it was when Freddie was alive.

I have been passing this place for many years now and have seen a huge reduction of people visiting. Probably because there is very little to see, except every now and again, sad and lost looking people walking away disappointed and confused. I'm not entirely sure what they are expecting to see, after all the current resident has gone to a great deal of trouble to discourage visiters from leaving graffiti (vandalising) on the wall outside. l Perhaps, over twenty years after the man died, his much over rated music has finally lost its appeal.

I am so concerned -`when I tried to look this address up on GoogleEarth it comes up as 1-2 Logan Place as some kind of theatre. Did Mary sell the house do you think? I felt so bad when I read that she forced Jiim Hutton out of the house after Freddie died despite the fact that he told her he wanted him to be able to stay as long as he liked. She got rid of Joe (the cook I think) immediately because she hated him. Peter Freestone who was with Freddie for 12 years as his assistant was also turned out to The Mews away from the house. Jim loved Freddie and I think Freddie was much in love with him. He was not allowed to ride in the front funeral car as Mary ordered him not to ride with her. In an interview with OK magazine date March 17, 2000 she said his frieds that woroked in the house o left her - she did not know why but felt because Freddie was so kind to them. That is a directly opposite what many, many friends indicated.
