I live in a converted Georgian building in Dublin, which still boasts some of the original features. I adore the flat so much that I decided to set part of my novel in Georgian Dublin, and decided to start my research by going to this museum. It was a smart choice.

The cost of the tour is very reasonable and well worth the experience. The guides are unbelievably knowledgeable and, best of all, passionate about their work. More than happy to answer any questions, they go out of the way to make sure you get the most out of your visit.

I've been on the tour twice and each time the guide gave different snippets of information. I love that you don't get assaulted by a robotic diatribe, written by an anonymous snaggle-toothed character living in a dingy basement. The guides really care and make sure they know their stuff.

Wandering around an old building being told about the features may not sound like the most thrilling of adventures. But there's no better way to get n authentic taste of what it was like to live in Georgian Dublin. You step into the past and learn about the conventions of Georgian society, its quirks and misdemeanors. You get to understand the cogs and what made them break. All fascinating stuff.

Over tea, I asked the staff for some recommendations for further research. They were extremely helpful, bringing useful books to browse in the café and writing down the contact details of several organizations that might help.

It's worth mentioning also that it was possibly the cheapest pot of tea in Dublin, and decent too. You can use the café even if you're not going on the tour. It's a lovely space and atmosphere. Guess where I sit to edit my novel!

Another blink and you would miss it Dublin feature. It's goes by the number 29. Tours are guided. It's the best way to see what it's like inside one of these buildings that dot the Dublin city landscape.

You take a take a guided tour from the basement to the attic, through rooms which have been furnished with original artefact's from the Georgian era, so it's really cool. I wish I could sum up a tour better than saying it's really cool, but alas I am a product of this era where a temperature description is supposed to encapsulate a myriad of feelings.

You can finish the tour with some tea and scones in their quaint coffee shop. My only bone of contention is that the tours cost. I think it's a bit much for a museum that is in partnership with the ESB should have the nerve to charge. ESB already charge ridiculous amounts for energy and then they expect you to fork out for a piece of your national heritage, it just makes it inaccessible to the masses. OK off my soap box I pop.

Tours cost:
Adults:€6.00
Students, Senior Citizens, Group Leaders, Unwaged: €3.00
Under 16: Free
The companion of a disabled visitor is admitted free of charge on request.

Open: Tuesday - Saturday 10a.m.- 5 p.m.
Sunday 12 noon - 5 p.m.
Closed: All Day Monday.
