Howth is a small fishing village about 30 minutes east of Dublin. It was easily accessible for me to get here by taking the DART commuter train from downtown Dublin. The village features a picturesque harbor and is filled with many seafood restaurants. In contrast to the busy city of Dublin, Howth will make you feel like you are in the quiet Irish countryside. I came by myself during the winter and it seemed like I was the only tourist around. There are great hiking trails along the cliffs here too.

Without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.
Howth is a quaint and beautiful fishing village only about 30 minutes away from Dublin if you take the Dart train from Connelly station. It was 6,50 euro round trip per person and trains pass by about every 20 minutes or so.
I would definitely recommend visiting the Howth Market if you come on the weekend. It's like a little farmers market that sells loads of coffee, tea, baked good, prepared foods, souvenirs, etc. This market is located right across the street when you exit the Dart station, you can't miss it.
Once you're done there if you continue walking towards the ocean there is a trail that leads you to Howth's head and while you're making your way over there you'll pass by many shops and restaurants.
The trail is a steep climb, and if you're not in relatively good shape or have proper shoes on, I'd recommend just staying in town and maybe having a drink at one of the many pubs, but if you're able to make the climb, it's completely worth it. The views are absolutely breath taking, and along the way there are endless vines of wild black berries which you'll see various people (myself included) eating as a snack.
I ended up climbing the top by myself while the rest of my party waited for me back down. Please be careful and don't be stupid and take selfies in dangerous areas, make sure to stay on the trail all the time.
Enjoy the beauty and charm that Howth offers, I loved it more than Dublin itself.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff H.Margareten, Vienna, Austria2471387933431 Jul 2016
A visit to Howth is a must when you are in Dublin. After exploring Dublin's northside and southside, head out to its seaside. Howth has a picturesque harbor for both fishing and sailing, some great hiking trails up on the cliffs of Howth Head, and a bevy of seafood restaurants and chippies. Doesn't fish & chips with an Irish beer taste better in the salt air? It certainly does in Howth!

Howth is a fishing village on the North side of Dublin City. One of my favourites places for a relaxing walk with a great views, and very healthy walking paths suitable for all ages. The walk to cliff is a little tough but worth the effort - the views are magnificent and the village still retains its charm. If eating is on the agenda then you will find plenty of excellent sea food restaurants, the prices vary from extra expensive to moderate. Farmers market at the weekend. Well worth a day visit!

The freshest air I've ever breathed was in Howth, Ireland!
It was my friend's idea to take a trip to while we were in Dublin for the weekend.I honestly had no idea what this place was before coming here. We took a quick train ride from the city to this gorgeous gem of the Emerald Isle!
OH MY GOODNESS! Howth is located in the peninsula of Dublin Bay. You'll find the freshest seafood in the few local restaurants located here.
This place was super quiet, not many tourists at all... I actually think it was only us!
I love that after being in the hustle and bustle of busy cities you can come away to Howth to breathe clean and fresh air! So crisp!
Howth is probably my favorite part of my Ireland trip!Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - Irina R.Barcelona, Spain51543412 Jul 2015
It will cost you 6 euros a both ways ticket from Pearse station to Howth and you should probably go there for a whole day! Great view, good for hiking, fresh air and fresh seafood. The further you go the less people there will be so it totally worth the effort - quite and serene place.

Howth is great. Summer or winter, it has so much to offer.
We go for the Howth Head walk, the long one. It's so worth it, so when you see the signs for the different options, talk the long way round, if you are up to it. The views are excellent. Weather obviously plays a part, so dress appropriately or go another day if its peeing it down.
Another highlight for me is the harbour, pier, boats and seals. I don't think there has ever been a visit I've not seen a grey seal in the harbour bobbing about.
Next the food. The seafood in particular. If you want to sit down for a lunch or an evening meal, go to the west pier. Our favourite haunts are The Oar House and Octopussy. Booking is advised for both these places. On the weekend there is the Howth market, for some alternative food options.
There is also the seafood shops also on the west pier, where you can buy all your fresh fish for cooking at home. So much selection and produce. It really is a great resource that is a bit lacking the city centre.
For some pub action I like The Bloody Stream. Lovely warm and welcoming open fires in the winter. Pair that with a hot whiskey and you are onto a winner.
We normally drive out, but the DART is so handy for anyone on foot. There has always been parking on the west pier when we go, even on the very busy days.
Howth, a must for residence of Dublin and tourists alike.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 16439594914 Jan 2014
Love this place. Our nearest DART station had construction going on so a friendly stranger directed us to a bus stop with a bus that took us directly there in about 30 minutes.
The hiking trail is amazing, definitely not a walk in the park but you don't need to be in great shape to do it. Amazing views but also super windy so dress appropriately for very cold weather.
And the village is adorable! They have a little farmer's market area with plenty of delicious things to eat and look it. I almost wished we didn't have reservations at one of the seafood restaurants near the pier there was so much good food to eat in the market.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
