Canary wharf ice rink is right in front of canary wharf just above the shopping mall. A great little location with bars and restaurants nearby.

I didn't find the staff at the ice rink very polite or helpful, when my boyfriend and I were returning our ice skates the lady serving us took the skates from my boyfriend but never came back with his shoes and instead just dumped them at the other end of the counter.

The ice rink looks very pretty as it has a large ornamental blue bowl in the middle and the trees are wrapped with lights.

The narrow pass that goes around the bowl can get really congested and we found that perhaps there are too many people on the ice at one time.

Me at the ice rink! Pretty trees in the background

If you consider London for ice rinks, this one is pretty much the winner!

Of course outside UK there are much better venues to choose from, but in our big city this pop up seems to be a strong contender. The ticket is not cheap 14-15 GBP hurts the wallet especially if you are doing it often.

But, this particular place has some advantages:
      - It's relatively empty on weekday evenings, if you would like to practice after work, or do alternative work out
      - The rental skates are sharp (!) and fit me pretty well. I usually can't get a proper fit from the rentals.
      - The music is pretty nice and entertaining.
      - There is variety of ice rink areas. There is a track where you can walk/slalom which makes the experience more interesting than just skating around in the rectangular ice rink area.
      - There is a bar where you can bring your non-skating friends to sit and enjoy. Also great to have a cup of mulled wine afterwards.
      - The local views on Canary Wharf are stunning.
      - 1 hour 20 minutes session gives plenty of time to exercise.
      - On the weekday evenings you can easily chat with staff and maybe they can teach you a trick or two on the ice!
      - Changing room staff is also chatty, enjoy your odd cheeky banter!
      - You can place your kid on this cool polar bear trolley (5 GBP)!

I really don't have minuses I simply love this place!

Impatiently waiting for start of the session!!!

I thought anything in Canary Wharf would be unreasonably expensive.
      I was wrong.

14GBP per adult is a fair price for this one. You'll find out why when you read the whole review.

Sadly they don't give you any discounts even if you bring your own skates.
This ice rink, is very well maintained and in a lovely location and is pretty big.
They clean the rink after every skate session.
      One session is one hour.

It is not just a rectangular rink where you skate counter clockwise, there is a narrow path on one side, like a small skate-way to enter and exit the bigger space.

I have been to a couple of ice rinks in London. And I feel this is a lot better than the Winter Wonderland ice rink.

They also have a bar and grill right next to the rink for those who have family/friends skating but are too scared to skate. But if you don't like it, then you you are not too far away from Wahaca and other restaurants in Canary Wharf.

This place is really kids friendly. They give kids skate assists in the form of a polar bear. Even adults can hire them, as long as they are not very tall. 5GBP per assist as of 2014 December.

They have lockers too where you can store your valuables for a pound, while you do some amazing stunts or practice falling on ice on the rink.

I'd totally recommend this place to anyone who wants to skate.
Great place to take your partner for a date. Just make sure that you get back in one piece.

This is a really nice rink in the heart of Canary Wharf! Very beautiful with the lights of the surrounding buildings. And open on Boxing Day as I just spend an hour here on this very day.

It's only open during the winter months. And prices are comparable to other ice skating rinks. My only grip is that for 12 pounds, you only get an hour of skating. Comparing to skating rinks in the USA... you pay a similar price but are allowed to stay all day. I didn't feel an hour was enough. I can easily skate for 3 hours non stop.

But a very enjoying evening even if only for an hour!

I've been to the Canary Wharf Ice Skating (open air) last year.

I think I paid £10 for 1 hour session in the evening (which is more than enough for a beginner like me). I think it was at 20.30.

I had a great time. It was my first time so I think I felt 4 or 5 times, had bruises everywhere but it was really nice.

This year, I won't forget my gloves!

I checked on http://www.viewlondon.co.uk (where I bought the tickets last year) and it's now £12 and apparently it opens on 17th November.

I might do it again but need to buy roller blades to train before :-)

Went to the Canary Wharf ice rink today at a 12 noon Sunday session. It doesn't have a very magical Christmassy atmosphere but it is a nice, large-ish rink that if you want to have some fun with, is an ok place to do it. When I was there, it wasn't very crowded at all leaving us a lot of space to skate (and fall). I suspect it gets busier as the day goes on though.

If you're only going to skate once this season, there are better places to go, but if you want to have some fun (especially with children) I'd recommend it.

A nice ice rink, if a little small. I went there last year, and will go there again this year, when it opens (22Nov to 22Feb). There are better ice rinks, but very few that have this kind of atmosphere. Usually we don't associate ice skating with the concrete urban centre, but it makes for something really unusual here. With the lights of Canada Tower, and other buildings in the background, you don't forget you are in London, but it does make you see another side to London.

The main disadvantage however, is its increasing popularity, and the size of the ice rink, which at peak times, makes it too busy and densely packed. Still, a good evening out, especially in the weekdays. It costs £10 in the afternoon and £12 in the evening, so for two people it is expensive, but then you'd pay that in a restaurant, and this is arguably more fun.

Love this ice rink. It may be small but it is perfectly formed! The ice is always in very good condition. The boots are in good condition. The staff are miserable ... well, you can't have everything! Actually the staff on the ice are helpful and give good tips. They also keep the ice safe.
There is nothing like skating on a cold crisp day with blue skies and light bouncing off the tall, glass buildings that surround you.
These outdoor rinks are not cheap but this one is awesome.

We had a wonderful time ice skating at Canary Wharf on Christmas Eve. Our time on the ice was lovely, but most memorable was how kind and helpful Will (the supervisor) was to our family. My husband was sick and he went out of his way to help us and ensure that our special christmas ice skating adventure was a magical experience for our small children. We won't forget his kindness!

I did NOT like this ice rink. Let me explain. Firstly, its absolutely tiny. Okay, I guess I shouldn't complain too much, they're all this size. But when you're skating tight circles in one direction for an hour, eventually you'll find that one of your legs has lost all functionality. And that can't be good. Secondly, the ice was awful - again, understandable I suppose when such crowds pass through here every day.
But one thing they could at least have made an effort with when the price of a session is 13 quid - the skates themselves. They're pick-axe grade blades welded onto the modern plastic version of the chinese torture boot. And this leaves only the most optimistic and/or desensitized to enjoy the ride for any longer than ten minutes. Bring your own blades. Better though, take them to a proper ice rink, and enjoy your skating with better ice, much more space and dare I say , a better view.
