Dublin
This is one of those rare places in Dublin which has an interesting and varied menu, with fresh ingredients, is reasonably priced and where you're more than just a number *yes, i'm just about old enough to remember 'the prisoner'* ;)
Can't remember the name of the lunch I've just had there but I remember it had prawns and parma ham on mini-skewers, resting on a bed of rocket, the balsamic vinegar and lemon giving it an extra kick, delicious!
"i'll be back"

My new favourite discovery!
I'd heard about Just Off Francis, located as the name suggests, just off Francis Street (next to Café Noto on Thomas Street to be exact). The café/restaurant opened fairly recently but already has a loyal customer base. It is a long and narrow room, with small tables lining the walls on both sides and two bigger ones in the back next to the kitchen.
And what a gourmet kitchen! Went there for lunch today and ordered the soup+sandwich combo. The special of the day was broccoli soup and a toasted sandwich with cheese and salami and salad on the side. This is the real deal. Thick soup, rich in flavour topped with cheese (could easily be enough for lunch on its own), and the sandwich was superb! No tiny slice of salami here. And as this wouldn't be enough, you get bread, butter and crisps in a bowl before you wait for your meal. And what does all this fab food cost, you ask? Only €6!
Unfortunately I didn't have room for dessert, as I really had liked to taste their strawberry-lemon tart. Have to save that until next time. Haven't tried their dinner menu yet, but hiding away in the leather sofa on a Friday night in good company is on the to-do list.
Don't think I can emphasise enough how amazing this place is. Don't only take my word for it though, try it out yourselves! -

Dublin
I just went to 'Just off Francis' for lunch and reading the reviews, I must have been at a different restaurant. I order the goat's cheese salad and it was not good value for money. There was very little goats cheese and too much rocket. (I am not one of these people who moans after, I pointed out the lack of goats cheese to the waiter) My lunch partner got chowder, the bowl was all cracks. Not great presentation. We also got a toastie which was very average. As for atmosphere, I found it cold and dark. It wasnt a place I would recommend.

It was a great surprise to discover this restaurant when I happened to be in the area and hungry ! It's cosy, maybe a bit too much, but everything else about it is just great. Creative dishes, good food at great price, very very nice staff as well...

I'm a Dubliner living in New York. On a recent visit to Ireland, my niece recommended this place. She works in another Dublin busy busy restaurant so how could I go wrong? SHE WAS SO RIGHT. Super food and amazing value, presentation completely unexpected. We four enjoyed without exception the friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere. Decor isn't fancy here, food measures up to the best - my goodness would I go again?....FOR SURE! Definitely one to recommend and if your on a budget.....just GO, you can afford a lunch or dinner here.
