Please understand that I am only giving this place 3 stars because it's in Dublin, and none of the 4 Dublin hostels I've stayed in would even be acceptable if I wasn't desperate. Here's how the stars break down:

1 star because it is in a great location
1 star because it has a giant hangout area with enough tables and chairs
1 star for a decent breakfast of cereal, toast, and CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER!!

However, it is a Dublin hostel, which means that drunk 20-year-olds screaming in the middle of the night is standard. The 4-bed dorm was too small and it smelled like piss, and the bathroom smelled like piss.

    The Good:
    +Open 24 hr (no lockout).
    +Good security
    +Fun staff
+Nice area / perfect location. Located right near the Temple bar area- everything is walking distance.
    +They also offer free internet.

    Now, the bad:
    -No bed lights
-Annoying showers (you have to keep your hand on the faucet in order to keep the water on)
-Matresses & bedding are kind of lumpy
    -Onsite laundry is 8 euro/load

The price is a little high, yet competitive for that area. Backpackers, don't get too excited about the "free breakfast," --typical cereals & toast.

This place is a good find if staying in Dublin- book early!

I will always have fond memories of Kinlay House because it was the first hostel I stayed in when I arrived in Dublin 8 years ago. Although I only stayed there for one week, it felt like an eternity.

It was a stressful time because I was trying to settle into my new city. Kinlay House was a bit of a laugh and added to the confusion. My friend and I stayed in the biggest and cheapest room which was sometime like a 16 person dorm. We quickly realized that this was a mistake. Every night drunk people would wander into the room laughing and crying, struggling to find their bed. Of course, we didn't get any sleep so we changed to a 4 person dorm.

I do remember the awful showers that dripped cold water and made you feel like you were at a public pool. The kitchen was a nice place to meet people and was arranged for communal meals.

The staff are Kinlay are helpful: they ended up writing me a letter that allowed me to get my PPS number so I can't complain. They got me out of this mad house.

This hostel is in such a super location it is hard to beat! You can see Christ Church Cathedral from the rooms, Guinness Hop Stores, St Patrick's Cathedral, Cornmarket and the last remaining piece of the old city walls are all just minutes walking from this large hostel!

There is 24 hour reception, no curfew, free wi-fi, free brekkie and a laundry service! The rooms are spacious but some are very large, but that all just adds to the friendly community atmosphere here.

They have really good weekly rates and upgrades too so be sure to ask about these when you book!

I've stayed at Kinlay House a couple of times.  On my last visit, I was in one of the 6-bed dorms with a private bathroom.  It wasn't really the cleanest room that I've ever stayed in, but it tends to be pretty hit or miss with that in the hostel world.  It is a good location though, off the main drag of Temple Bar, but only a few minutes walk away.  There aren't any lock-out hours, which is nice too.  The last time I was there, the TV room definitely needed a revamp.  If you're ever in town on St. Patrick's Day, you can catch the parade from your window, if you have one on the main street out front.
