This is still a great campsite. The lake, campfires being allowed etc etc
But on two occasions our visit has been marred by other campers being extremely loud.
On this latest occasion, earlier, they had their own loudhailer to direct the party games they're playing.
Now their bass heavy music is so loud two other groups of campers / caravaners just upped and left. We've got earplugs, so will persevere.
Other things to note: firewood has gone from a bag being 3 EUR, to the option of a 4 EUR bag or a 5 EUR bag. The wood is pretty great though, for burning.
I wouldn't come back again if it was just the two of us. But we will be back when other friends come here... like next week :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 08 Jun 2014Previous reviewLough Remor is a fabulous setting for a campsite.
PROS
Camping per person is 7 EUR per night
You can camp literally on the shore of the lake.
You are allowed camp fires.
There are decent picnic tables to nab - if you are here in time to grab one.
The bird life here is amazing, from a family of swans to a murmuration of starlings as they prepared to roost for the night.
You can bring canoes / boats on the lake (launch fee applies).
You can go swimming in the lake.
You can fish off the shore.
CONS
Shower and toilets are extremely far away. You'll need to drive to get to them. Invest in a shewee if you're a female yelper and not shy.
I drop a star for the distance of the loos and the noise from the other camp users both late at night and early in the morning. The latter not really the campsites fault, but it took from my experience. I've never been on a campsite before with AC/DC blaring before ten in the morning. Don't get me wrong, I like the rockers from Down Under, just later in the day :)
I'd definitely go back, but if its just as noisy (which I suspect it might), it would be the last time.
Other fine print:
A shower costs 3 EUR
A bag of fire wood with kindling and firelighters cost 3 EUR - good value - Iris S.Wexford0118 Aug 2016
Worst camping experience ever and have camped in Ireland and UK for the past three years. Lovely setting, amenities not great but happy enough as part of camping experience. Didn't expect to be kept awake till three am with loud music, bad language and party going on. I have three children and nobody slept. When I complained to the owner I was told I could pack up and go at 11.30 pm with three children on a rainy night one hundred miles from home. Would hate for anyone else to experience a night like that as I know this is not normal and would give A bad impression of Cavan and thankfully having found alternative accommodation for the next night we managed to have a lovely weekend in Cavan. Frightening for children.

Myself and two teenage daughters stayed here for one night on 29/07/17. While the spot is very picturesque and the owner was very friendly and the campsite was clean, the toilets Eire very smelly and didn't flush properly, the loud music from several of the other groups detracted from the experience. There were at least five other groups all playing bass heavy music from their cars and this only increased as the evening wore on and they got drunker. It got to the stage that we had to raise our voices to speak to each other. I enjoy a drink and love music but I don't believe on forcing it on others. I was glad we were only having to endure this for one night. We had pitched our tent a respectable distance from some Russian people who were it seemed enjoying the morning when in the late afternoon a Lithuanian family squeezed their caravan and car in the small space in between, they then proceeded despite having three kids under 8 to blast out some amazingly annoying europop on the car stereo. This was the start of it and this went on for the next 8 hours and again when they woke the following morning. To add insult to injury another group of Polish campers stayed up partying till 5.30am. I have to say it was an overall dreadful experience and not one I would repeat again.
It is a shame because as I stated earlier it is a beautiful spot with the bonus of being able to light a fire but I feel there needs to be some sort of noise rule similar to campsites on the continent.
We won't be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Martin M.Dublin0117 Aug 2015
Ok I brought my three young Children for a two night stay camping. unfortunately we had problems from the start the owner was aggressive all the time towards me demanding I keep the gate closed I never once was not courteous with him. He suggested that we wash in the lake rather than use the showers which were locked. The toilets were portaloos which were filthy but at this point I felt that saying anything to him would get his back up. I finally had enough on a few occasions we left the site to go shopping the gate was unlocked by other campers and I hence left the gate open he demanded that I keep it locked. He was very aggressive when i told him that I was NOT responsible for his gate which I'm not.. He actually told me to leave in front of my children. this is not a man of character I will not be back nor would I recommend this place see for your self. Iver experienced anything like it ever Thankfully my two boys felt his hostility from the start so they knew what he was like and thankfully my little girl was too young to understand went to an amazing campsite in Tullamore we had a blast. thankfully our trip was rescued. I must reiterate i've met this man I nothing about him and what I have said above is accurate and true
