My friend was very keen to come here - being one of the few Japanese restaurants in Dundrum. It is conveniently located a few doors down from the cinema and is decked out nicely enough with a teppanyaki bar in the corner.

Food was good but a little pricey for what it really is. The tempura and tuna maki were delicious and the agedashi tofu delectable, the rest was so so.

The service, to say the least, seems to be very haphazard. It is the sort of service you would expect from a restaurant in its first week of opening. I had one waitress come up to us and said they ran out of tuna and for us to order something else. 30 seconds later, another waiter served our tuna roll. And a Japanese restaurant really has no excuse to run out of tuna on a Friday evening at 7 pm anyway!

Also I have seen every waiter come out with a tray of food, before looking lost and doubling back into the kitchen to check whatever it is. They also served our cokes with no ice, and when I requested for some, I was given fake ice (those plastic cube things).

Unfortunately, I won't be coming back here.

Frankly, the delivery service was awful.

      Namely, because it didn't happen.

We ordered, paid; got confirmation online. We were excited to try their food!

An hour passes. The hubs calls up the place, wondering what the status of our order is: "The driver just left," she says. Okay.

      Another 45 minutes pass.

A second call - by now we're hungry and fairly miffed. A new person on the phone. "Oh, [the last girl on the phone] didn't check your order properly..there was an issue with the website..refund? Oh, I think you'll have to call the website to get it through them, can I offer you free--"

      No. No, just..no.

      So disappointing!

The meal that nearly didn't happen!

So I was going on a date with my 85 year old aunty on Valentines day to a restaurant I had been so eager to check out! I had a feeling that the seating in the restaurant may not be suitable for an arthritic , multiple hip/knee/shoulder replacement 85 year old lady. The seats themselves proved to be unsuitable. They also didn't have any standard chairs to override this obstacle. Anyway we managed to get a few cushions to help the situation.

Now on to the food and service.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the food. It wasn't amazing and being a sushi connoisseur I certainly have had much better. The desert was very average , I would say pre-packed frozen deserts. Price-wise it was average to high for what you get.

The service was excellent and I really liked the interior - the wash basin in the ladies toilet was winner for me - beautiful Japanese design.

Unfortunately I will be in no rush to go back here.

      First to Review

I live in Dundrum and for a few months I saw this place being renovated. It finally opened a couple of months ago and boy, aren't I lucky?!

Firstly I don't eat in any restaurants in Dundrum, they are pretty awful in my opinion. I always go into the city centre for food. One evening we decided to try Ocha out as the initial reviews looked good. We didn't have a booking but we got a seat no problem. It was 6pm and already there were a few tables of people in there. We were served complimentary green tea as we looked at the menu. My companion ordered dumplings and sushi, I ordered miso soup and choo chee duck. All the food was amazing, service was faultless. My duck was crispy, the sauce was tasty. The sushi was fresh and the dumplings were really delicious (you get 4-5 dumplings for an appetiser - bargain!)

I returned here at the weekend with a group of friends. We ordered all different types of food (some people ordered a few appetizers, some ordered appetisers and main courses). Everyone loved the food - my favourite thing was salmon sashami. It's amazing!!

I will definitely be coming back here - there are so many things on the menu I want to try!

I had dinner at Ocha earlier tonight.

3.5 stars is a more accurate rating, Gaahd I wish Yelp would just allow them!!

Pros: great interior, nice clean look and decorations. Sushi was fresh, especially compared with other places in Dublin. Nice location, between Luas and Dun Drum Shopping center.

Cons: they kind of botched my spicy tuna roll. No, spicy mayo slathered on regular tuna does not count - it's not the same thing. Also the music was terrible, Katie perry, Bieber, top 40 crap you don't want to hear as it cheapened the whole mood. Price was on the pricey side considering meal wasn't stellar.

Summary : I wouldn't be heartbroken if I never return, but also wouldn't be trying to steer clear on purpose.

OCHA Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar is a Japanese and Thai restaurant offering Sushi and Teppanyaki grill. It is is only a few minutes walk from Dundrum Shopping Centre and can be found on the main street opposite the Dundrum House Pub. The exterior is all dark wood while the interior is minimalist with low stools and soft lighting. A teppanyaki grill takes pride of place in one corner. Apparently this can seat up to 7/8 people and it would make a fantastic night out as I can imagine it is quite theatrical. It is something I will definitely be trying out in the future.

We went for a range of items including miso soup, norimaki, chicken pad thai and agedashi Tofu which were all delicious. Now I don't proclaim to be a sushi expert having only really gotten into it in the last few years but I know what I like and I really enjoyed the food here! Ocha offers filling, fresh and healthy food at an affordable price. The service was friendly and efficient and it was a very comfortable place to spend a rainy Sunday. The only thing I was disappointed about was the drink menu which just offered red and white wine. There wasn't a hint of sake or plum wine on it. I really hope this place does well and that people visit here even though it is a little outside the main centre. Walk that extra two minutes from Dundrum Town Centre and give it a go!

Went here on a Friday night when all the main restaurants had queues. We were a bit hesitant as there were only 1 or 2 people dining. We needn't have been. The service was quick and the waitress was polite.

The food was simple but well prepared as sushi should be. Had a vegetable roll and a california roll. 8 pieces in each for €6 & €6.50 which is not far off what you'd pay for a similar offering from M&S

Be realistic when going here. Don't expect super high end sushi when you're only paying €12 for your meal. But if it's something simple, quick, tasty and good value you're after, you won't be disappointed.

I will be coming back here.

Newly (ish) opened in Dundrum, Ocha is only a few minutes walk away from the Luas stop. The interior is crisp and clean, with wooden tables, tiled floors and lovely lighting. The staff are courteous and attentive- managing to be an immediate presence when required, without ever getting in your face, which is quite an art.
Most people there had arrived in pairs, as did we. The tables for two were the right kind of size- one of my pet hates in restaurants is poky tables that are a nuisance when the dishes arrive, but these were fine. There are also larger tables that would seat six to eight people. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it would be better to book than to just walk in, particularly with a crowd. Also, it would be quite inappropriate to bring young children here even though the staff accomodate them- a few screams echo loudly around the room and annoy all the other customers, and there's nowhere to put a buggy except in a waiter's way.
The food is excellent. We had Japanese soup and sushi to start with, which was elegantly served with very beautiful crockery. The main courses were generous portions which were again attractively served, extremely tasty and made with what seemed like fresh, high-quality ingrediants. Loved it, as did my companion.
The only things I didn't like about this place were minor ones: the seats don't have backs, which is a bit annoying, particularly as there is then nowhere to put your coat, bag, and Irish-weather layers of clothes except onto the floor. (There is tiny little coat rack in the corner but it was a mess and I wouldn't leave anything nice there, just in case). There was a fan blowing warm air from the wall just behind our table, which might probably bother a taller person more so than a midget like me. If you want a post-prandial cigarette you have to go and stand out on the main road. But then I shouldn't smoke. Overall, great place, great location near Dundrum town centre and the Luas, and amazing food. Will happily go back!

I have tried this place twice. I found the first time when we ordered they ran out of Sushi rice and we had to wait 25min before we could get Sushi... although we could order other bits and wait. The food was good and the cuts of Sushi were good sized. My second visit was much the same... I think there rolls are just ok compared to other Sushi places but I'd say for now its the best place around the Dundrum area for Sushi.

Good little local sushi place in Dundrum. I haven't tried any of the hot food but the sushi is good quality even if the menu is slightly limited. Service was quite slow even when restaurant was not very busy. Overall though, good sushi at a decent price in a convenient location. Will be back.
