So this is the flagship Oriental Emporium store. Very accesible location, again it has the same things on offer as the store on Jervis, although I much perfer the Jervis location. Simply due to the space and that the Luas is right outside the store door.
I have a thing that everytime I pass either store I have to try out their sweets section, the colours and graphics on them are sober tripping. I have no idea what I am buying but that just adds to the fun of it. -

After Asia Market, this is a pretty great little shop. The big difference is it is little. I like there Jervis Street location for its size, but it feels like the shelves are not as well supplied. Anyway, back to the review. I am a big fan of fresh Shangai rice noodles and they often have them. They also have a decent selection of spices, nuts, noodles, sauces and candy - I especially liked their recent fruit marshmallow give away - random, but good.

I could spend hours in an Asian supermarket... so many interesting things to look at, and so many 'what the?' moments.
I was pretty impressed with the Chinese vegies section at Oriental Emporium, the vegies are all very fresh and cheap and much better than anything of the sort you'd find in Tesco (if you were lucky enough to find this stuff in Tesco!) You can even get banana leaves here, which impressed me much!
But then again, I have never been to the Asian Market Laura mentions... I will try that first before making any sweeping generalisations! -

It makes me really, really pissed off that health food stores sell the exact same tofu you can get at Oriental Emporium for more than twice the price. That's ridiculous and just plain mean! Join me in refusing to tolerate that nonsense and shop HERE instead.
I am a regular customer here because I love to experiment in the kitchen. I have mastered a lot of cuisines, but many Asian ones still hold many mysteries. That's why this place is so awesome. They have all sorts of options to help jazz up you're culinary outings, I especially love their outstanding array of sauces, and vegetables. The frozen section holds many goodies too, like wonton wrappers and cheap frozen fish, so don't overlook it. -

The Oriental Emporium is and can be a fun experience. Unfortunately, its proximity to the Asian Market across the way makes drawing comparisons inevitable. Sadly for the Oriental Emporium, it comes off second best. Its stock isn't as extensive, nor are the prices as competitive. It must be frustrating for them, as it is actually quite good...every spare inch is filled, and there is the usual trepidation mixed with anticipation when faced with rows and rows of food that one cannot fathom the uses of. All part of the fun! Sometimes though, it stocks things unavailable elsewhere...and it certainly has the luck to be situated in such a place as to make walk-in traffic much more common.
