The thing that I find most notable about Rathmines College is that it offers a good variety of evening classes at a reasonable price.
I absolutely adore languages and though I did try and learn some French and Improve my Italian off the BBC website it still wasn't the same experience as being a part of a class with a real, living, breathing teacher in front of you. In past semesters, they did offer quite a large variety of language courses, but it seems that this semester they're focusing more on English and some Irish and Spanish.
Fret not if languages aren't your thing they also offer lifestyle courses in things like knitting and bellydance! If you just can't get your head around the newspaper headlines they also offer introductions to Irish politics and economics - they sound like real doozies!
I just discovered evening classes at Rathmines College and I wish I could take them all. My friend and I signed up for the acting classes and, when we got there the staff was so friendly and even though we missed the deadline for the enrollments they didn't hesitate to make an exception. The first class was awesome, the teacher, the group and the prices are extremely reasonable. I can't wait for the next class.
Well, Rathmines College of Further Education is situated in the Town Hall Building, in the heart of Rathmines Village. It is an old Building, and is fairly basic, but it serves its purpose well and lots of people come to this college to do Post Leaving Certificate courses such as, Accountancy Technician, computer programming, Repeat Leaving Certicate, Administration (Legal and Medical) to name but a few.
I did Year 2 of hte Legal Administration Course and found the staff to be friendly, helpful and professional. They really wanted the students to do well and, helped whereever they could.
The computers were the latest flat screened ones which was great.
Our Law Lecturer was great and made Law seem interesting by breaking it down into ordinary day occurences when explaining the different aspects of Law. It was the subject I was dreading the most, but was, in the end the subject I did the best in !!
On completion of the courses, you achieve the FETAC Award which is recognised worldwide. FETAC stands for Further Education and Training Awards Council.
At lunch time, there were tea/coffee facilities at the little canteen, as well as crisps and chocolate. I used to bring in my own soup and sandwiches while I was a student.
I would recommend this college to anyone. I made friends here and some I still have to this day. I also got a job out of this course, which I wouldn't have done, before the course.
