I didnt have a lot of time in Munich but i made it a point to hit one of the 2 Michelin star restaurants. Tantris never gave me a call back and I wanted to go because my friends mother staged there. Alas Dallmayr to the rescue! I went for the full 8 course meal and had Julien the sommelier pair all German wines. Excellent all around. Chef Diethard came out to say hello briefly and made the rounds. Good to see chefs interested in their guest's enjoyment. The real star in service here was my captain Susan, who not only took great care of me, gave me some local suggestions for other food and chatted me a good long while as i closed the restaurant. Next time when you go to the market and deli, dont forget that there's a wold class restaurant upstairs!
Menu as follows:
-Amuse Buches
-King Prawns, Yogurt, Vegetables
-Lake Trout, Pumpkin, Mustard Cabbage, Amaranth
-Poernbacher Asparagus, Dallmayr selection "classic modern spirit"
-Sole, Sea Urchin, Artichoke, Marrow
-Prime Beef, Variations of Veal, Cinnamon Potato, Kohlrabi, Purslane
-Crispy Cheese Sandwich, Blood Sausage, Blackberry
-Pomegranate, Yogurt, Dill
-Rhubarb, Coconut, Beech Ice

After having lived in Munich for a year, we finally decided to indulge and check out one of the Michelin starred restaurants in Munich. This one is a two starred restaurant in Munich and, one of two in town with this rating.
For me the over all experience was more of 3.5 stars than a 4. The reason I have given it four stars is because of the service and the way in which they accommodated us for the evening.
Service - 5 stars
Flexibility of the menu - 5 stars (they made a special vegetarian menu for my wife and catered to her every need)
Taste - 3.5 stars
Value for money - 2 stars
Wow factor - 3 stars
We have been to Michelin starred restaurants in many countries like USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Belgium, France, UK, Spain and now finally Germany. In terms of wow factor this place is ok but nowhere near some of the other places we have been to.
The first three courses were amazing. The fish was cooked to perfection, the mole sauce with the beef was amazing and flavours were excellent. The next three courses were a bit of a disappointment.
One of the back three courses was a 40 min poached egg with Perigord truffle and it was a total disappointment. I have made a better 40 min poached egg at home without the fancy equipment :-) the dessert which was a combination of chocolate, avocado and tomato was also a failure in my opinion as the flavours just did not work together. Mixing sweet and savoury is a fine art in my opinion and, it does not take much to get it wrong and, it was evident here with the dessert.
The wine list is fabulous and the wines we had were excellent. The sommelier was extremely helpful and helped us select some excellent German wines for the evening. The petit fours (a selection of home made chocolate) was also excellent. The petit fours probably saved the evening in my opinion.
I don't mind paying for good food but it has to have the wow factor and unfortunately I walked away with mixed opinions.
The staff here are truly wonderful and, for the service and wine alone I will be back however, given the choice of fabulous restaurants in Munich, I would have to consider carefully if, I would pay for a good experience. I expect a great experience in places like this and I am afraid it was not so.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2 Jul 2016
Excellent two star Guide Rouge restaurant. We had a 10 year anniversary and celebrated at Dallmayr. We started with their own champagne rose, and continued with 5/6 course tasting menu. My wife went for the fish/pigeon varieties and I tried more meat/fish version. I loved the food, my wife (who is thin and not a big eater) was still very disappointed due to really small sizes of the various courses. To drink we had a nice bottle of Riesling. Superb service to perfection! All in all, recommended for upper echelon dining.

Restaurant Dallmayr is a foodie's heaven - located at the heart of Munich downtown. Downstairs is a high-end market, featuring chocolate, desserts, coffee beans, meats and fresh fruit. Upstairs is a full-service restaurant that was awarded two stars by Michelin.
We feel honored to dine at the restaurant on my birthday upon my visit in Munich. We enjoyed every piece in the dinner, as well as the excellent service by the team. Even though the dinner is very pricey, we feel it worths every penny.
The 6-course pre-set dinner we ordered was prepared with the freshest ingredients in season. The order of the menu was well managed. The bread was served in three flavors along with three types of butter (Original, seaweed, raspberry?). The entire dinner took 3.5 hours long.
My favorite dish was "crab cannelloni with sea urchin butter". All the small dishes within the place blended very well. My mom's favorite dish was "smoked asparagus". She couldn't stop praising the crisp sweet giant asparagus after the dinner. We both love the chocolate selections - we both choose 5 from the 10 different types.
The one dish I care least for was the raw milk cheese dish - with 6 types of cheese along with two type of jam/toppings. It was an excellent quality dish; however, the experience is no difference from getting the cheese/jam from the store and savor at home.
The only screw-up that night was that the waitress mixed up the birthday girl. Felt funny my birthday cake walked to my mom's seat :) Nevertheless, I recommended it as the meal was truly memorable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shawn R.Broomfield, United States8538826130 Nov 2015
Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous place in Munich. The downstairs area is a foodie shop with specialty food and German gifts. We had a group dinner here and the level of food was photo worthy. One of those nights when you take a picture of every course. The service was great, wine was wonderful. Its an excellent place to host a large business function/dinner. The evening we were there we had the place to our self's but I would welcome the opportunity to go back during regular business hours. be sure to put Restaurant Dallmayr on your list when you visit. I will be back for sure.

unfortunately the michelin guide categorised this restaurant as creative. it was unfortunately nothing but ordinary. it should have been categorised under classical/modern. in any case, it was not very exciting to eat here. also, i had to give back a dish as i found the cookshair in the main dish! also, overall, it was very salty! the bread though was indeed very very good. that was actually the best of all the dishes.
