As a frequent business traveler, I see two types of hotels:

"The Lame Chain"  This is the super sterile, chain hotel with the same stuff no matter where you go.  And, they typically nickel and dime you (aka paid wi-fi, $63 bottles of water, and $550/night parking).  And then you have the...

"Local Joint"  This is where Temple Bar comes in.  These hotels are hip, unique, and offer you a variety not found in the chains.

So, against the advice of my entire office, I decided to stay right in the heart of Dublin's drinking and partying mecca.  I requested a courtyard room (this makes ALL the difference - you will actually have silence).

The hotel is clean, well laid out and has a pretty active sports pub.  Free wi-fi was a nice touch too.

The room was a decent size, and clean, and the towel warmer was a nice touch (need to get one for home now).  The staff was super responsive to calls, and is always nice to chat them up.

The location is PERFECT.  There is a nice Tesco right across the way, and a car park as well.  You can walk to just about anywhere (maybe not Galway, but you get the idea), and stumble back.

I will be staying here again!

Although the hotel is dated the price was right when I booked it.  Once we were there the accomodations were what I expected.  Now for the GREAT part.  It is in the heart of Temple Bar so location is prime.  The staff were outstanding.  We were there for three nights then left for an over night in Limerick.  When returning we were running late and called.  The informed us that not only would our accomodations be held but since we had decided to return to their hotel they upgraded our room!

This is a convenient place to stay in the city centre of Dublin. It's located right on the peripheral of Temple Bar so you can walk to many of the top restaurants and bars in Dublin. The main downside is that it can be loud at night, especially if you end up in a room facing the street.

Overall the rooms and service was good. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was your typical Irish breakfast buffet. Nothing to write home about but it was definitely convenient and it was served from 7am onwards.

I'd stay here again but only if I'm planning to go out to bars at night. This is not the place if you're looking for a quiet getaway.

Loved this place, and Oscar at the desk is a great man, most helpful.
Clean, easy, convienent and friendly of course. Central location and most of all, COMFORTABLE. I recommend the breakfast (it's full). And it is Dublin, so unless you stay out of the central location, there will be noise, but if your tired, you should have no troubles sleeping. Would recommend and stay once again. Secure as well.

We stayed here our first night in Ireland  for one night before heading to the west side of the country. You can't beat the price we paid for the location- it was central to everything in Dublin and ideal if you were looking to jam pack a lot of sights into a short amount of time. We had two rooms with two twin beds which was kind of odd at first since you usually don't see two twin beds in a hotel room here. The service was good and the free internet was a plus. There may have been free breakfast too but we skipped out on that so we could get on to our next stop.

History

Established in 1993

Temple Bar Hotel is located in the heart of one of Dublin's most historic areas-Temple Bar.It is believed the area was named after the Temple family which lived here during the 17th century.During the 19th century the area suffered from urban decay and really declined in popularity. This led to low rents which attracted many artists and crafts people to the area. This gave the neighbourhood a unique bohemian vibe.In the early 90s funding was secured for the regeneration of the area.Thankfully the re-development project maintained the culture of the area and led to Temple Bar becoming known as the 'cultural quarter'.Temple Bar Hotel which was originally a bank, opened on Temple Bar's Fleet Street in 1993 as part of the FBD Hotel Group. Some of the old bank safes are still located in the hotel. Before becoming a bank it is speculated that a part of the original building was used as a hide out for General Michael Collins during the Treaty Negotiations.
