The Angel's Share

I really liked my time at The Angel's Share, and I was pleasantly surprised at my enjoyment. Think that says more about me than The Angel's Share. I do love the reference to the evaporated alcohol, and found it equally amusing reading about it on the cocktail menu too. Going off name alone I expected something completely out there in the way of style and decor or something more traditional. Needless to say The Angel's Share is neither. It's definitely got that cool but calm vibe about the place, and with plenty of space and multiple places to eat and drink it's a good venue by day to catch up with friends, and a good venue by night to gather the troops for a beverage or five.

Unlike Susan and Aneila, me and my lot went outside to eat and drink and do smokings and talkings, and as it was a nice day, this was all rather pleasant, and away from the noise of the bar, which I will add, is a bit on the noisy side folks. Everything seems amplified for some reason, could be something for the folks at The Angel's Share HQ to think about, especially as in these rubbish weather conditions, outside really isn't an option, and I know people put off by the prospect of shouting at their dinner date.

Oh yeah, food, a nice selection of American style fayre to choose from, again at reasonable prices, and again not brilliant food, but it satiates a hunger, and isn't a bank breaker. Crispy duck and pomegranate salad is an interesting one, but personally I would stick to the chicken and prawn jambalaya or the philly cheese steak sarnie. Food prices average at £8 a head, £4 being the lowest priced dish, £11 being the highest, and then water it all down with a nice drink.

Ohhhh drinks...yes there isn't a lot of alcohol that this bar doesn't serve, just check out their cocktail menu for a testament tto that. Huge!

I like it, but if you like quiet time, then wait for a nice day and sit outside.

I loves Angel's Share, I do. There's nothing lovelier than a nice evening on the Red Stripe in Chapel Appletown, that's what I say.


The staff are really friendly, and as Runcible points out, spot on at remembering you and what you ordered.


I love sitting outside under the big umbrellas and heaters, even in winter.


There is only one teensy thing that I don't find lovely about this place and that's that there's a mountainous trek to ge to the toilet. Unless I sneak into the disabled one. Which I do.

Angel's Share is a bar, restaurant and live music venue in Chapel Allerton. It has a massive outdoor patio smoking area, and another on the roof. Set in a modern building you might perhaps find on Grand Designs, yet there it would probably be overlooking a vast expanse of nature, rather than a street of restaurants, all fighting for the attention of the general public.

The bar is loud, with seating that does make it hard to converse if you come as a pair, rather than a group. With red lighting, and no artwork on the walls, save for promotional posters about their 'half price cow' steak nights on a Wednesday, and the American Kitchen (it's restaurant) upstairs. Despite it allegedly being a live music bar, I didn't see any advertisements on the subject, which I thought was a shame.

The swanky downstairs bar has a large selection of (notably) rum and other spirits and continental bottled lager, including Blue Moon, a corriander flavoured lager.

The bar is named after the evaporated substance in the process of maturing alcohol, a nice little fact that comes on the back of their cocktail menus. Cocktails come between 5-6 quid each.

A week or so ago I had the opportunity to visit the 3rd birthday of the Seven Arts Centre in Chapel A. As the party was wrapping up my friend and I found ourselves with a lingering thirst and so decided to wander up the road for a night cap. Having never tried The Angel's Share before I suggested we pop in here - there were plenty of drinkers in attendance and with a huge welcoming outdoor area it seemed like just the job.

Inside the party was certainly booming, the music was reasonably loud and boppy, but this was of no concern for us since we'd already clocked those outdoor seats. We waited patiently at the bar and were greeted by a friendly bar chap, who made sure to welcome us whilst finishing up with his other customers. We had quite a laugh between us as the customers in question were trying their darnedest to get their cocktails two for one. They weren't quite at the stage of starting a brannigan over it, but they were certainly pushing it as far as they could go! In a lovely moment of camaraderie the bar man offered the four of us a free Jaeger shot in place of the two for one request, which I thought was more than fair, and so I immediately warmed to this place.

I went for an Amstel, being as it was the lowest percentage lager and I happen to be less than capable of handling my beers. It was perfect and was one of the most refreshingly decent pints I've had in a while - sadly I've had poor luck with draught recently in Leeds as more than a few places appear to be unfamiliar with the concept of line-cleaning. Never fear, The Angel's Share is here, and seemingly pour a really decent pint.

Considering that we had such a welcome and found the venue great for an al fresco summer drink I was really pleased that we chose to stop by. I know that they now hold a regular vintage fair here, I believe it's once a month on a Saturday, and this only serves to bolster my positive vibes about the bar. I will certainly be back, if nothing else to magpie over their vintage hoards! Grand.

I came here for dinner on recommendation with my parents and better half on the first occasion they met each other; not advisable. While the food itself was great, with pizza/pasta style dishes done well with good, fresh ingredients, the dining room, despite being tucked away on the top floor, was probably the second loudest place I've ever been, after Subdub. It was nearly impossible for us to hear each other across the table, and it felt like anyone with birthday within a five mile radius had come to celebrate here. While this is I'm sure a testament to the quality of the food, the value for money, and the friendliness of the staff, it's not ideal if you want a more intimate meal out. Come with friends - the downstairs terrace is perfect for post-dinner cocktails on warm evenings - but if you want cosiness and conversation you might want to look elsewhere.

Really nice bar/restaurant in an attractive part of Leeds. The bar can get very busy but even then the staff are remarkable at remembering what you order. I asked for about 8 different drinks and the guy got the order spot on!


Upstairs there's a restaurant selling really nice and not very expensive food. It's well worth a visit if you are in the area but be warned that it can get manic on evenings at weekend.

I've been a few times, so that shows how good it is. The drinks and cocktails are good, and the staff know their drinks, but it is very pricey, thats my only complaint, and if it wasnt for that, then it'd get the full 5 stars.


The food is great, and surprisingly, not that expensive.

since moving into the area I've been in to Angel's Share a few times on an evening. It's usually busy, sometimes very very busy, and as such is usually very loud. The atmosphere is good, it's a really unusual building and the outdoor space is fab in warm weather.
The menu is american style grill food, which we sampled for the first time yesterday. The food itself was lovely, reasonably priced (pretty standard chapel allerton prices I'd say) and the service was quick, but we were 1 of only 3 other couples in there yesterday afternoon. The thing that puts me off eating there again is the smell of 'the night before' which seems to be lingering! I was guilty of having a few drinks the previous evening and so was perhaps feeling slightly more sensitive than the average sunday, but I found the smell really offputting and it would put me off eating there again. I really wanted to jump up and bust out some disinfectant for the floors and tables! Overall great but ditch the wiff guys!

Nice enough bar in the popular area of Chapel Allerton in Leeds. Nothing much sets it apart from the other bars in Chapel Allerton but its nice enough. There is a restaurant upstairs which does really good food though is a bit noisy because of the bar downstairs.

Great buildings , big glass frontage . Modern bar with good quality restaurant upstairs. Very busy at weekends .
