Stop here during your pub crawl as this is a good stop for the night. Easily located and visibly known on the street. They pack the people in here but I had a great time. There are nooks and crannies in the place to fit your crawl group. There was a live musician mixing up covers and Irish music. Also, a great time to people watch and meet people from different countries. Funny thing is met 4 Bostonians here, so small world!

Loved this pub back in the day when Temple Bar was run down, live impromptu sessions were the norm and lock ins were de rigeur.
Times have moved on and Temple Bar has been reinvented as has the Aul Dubliner. But the Guinness is still good, there's live music from 2pm and it opens late.. Nuff said.
Beware, it does get packed but where doesn't in Temple Bar. -

Dropped in one night after a horribly disappointing dinner (see my review for The Shack). The upper level wasn't crowded at all. We easily found a table and I happily ordered a toasted sandwich and a pint of Guinness. The sandwich hit the spot. Service was a bit sketchy - I wasn't sure if I should go to the bar to order, but there did appear to be one waiter who eventually came to get my order. He never did return to give me the check, so I just left enough money on the table and we moved on. There was live music downstairs, but I liked the more laid-back atmosphere upstairs.

Very cool pub. It was PACKED the night we went. Obviously that means one thing: it's great. There was a live performance and he was fantastic. A great singer. We had fun jamming to the music and sipping on some beer.

Now if you want a true Irish pub drinking experience, then head on over to one of my personal favorites, Auld Dubliner, which is located right in the middle of Temple Bar.
When the sun is up, the Auld Dubliner is a great place to get away from all of the hustle and bustle that is the city of Dublin. But once nighttime approaches, this beautifully designed pub becomes alive with the energy of locals and tourists alike.
I happen to pop in here once and ordered some pints of cider with my friends. The table next to us were a group of local musicians. They picked up their instruments, started playing and broke into an Irish song or two. It really made for an excellent few hours on a gloomy Sunday afternoon.
Plus this great Irish pub is a few steps away from my favorite place to down a few in Dublin...Oliver St John Gogarty. -

Of the many pubs in Temple bar, this is probably the best.
The Guinness is good and there is always a crowd.
It does get very busy at night and as in most pubs in the area you will need to be prepared to fight your way to the bar to order a round.
If you do not want to deal with tourists and hen\stag parties I would avoid it, but then what are you doing in temple bar in the first place? -

Ended up here quite a few nights while in Dublin. This bar is centrally located within the Temple District. Locals, tourists, you can have it all! The music was great and we always managed to find a seat (upstairs that is!!). The downstairs gets quite crazy especially around midnight. Head up for a "more" spacious area. The bouncers are strict only if you're acting douche-y. So cut the crap please. Oh, and use the well maintained bathrooms on the third floor.

The craic is mighty at the Auld Dubliner, and the place is often packed to the rafters with revellers from all over the world.
You might find getting to the bar a seemingly impossible feat - never fear, just smile sweetly and ask one of the many bar flies to move over so you can order your Guinness. And not bad Guinness either... I'm not one to drink the stuff normally (sacrilege!), but I must say I've had a good pint or two here.
If the pub is less than completely full take the time to have a look at the piccies on the wall. There are some famous peeps to be seen. I spotted Bill Bailey and Stephen Fry, and there's more where that came from!
We happened to be at the Auld Dubliner last night after the first of U2's swag of concerts at Croker. Needless to say it was a U2-themed affair, which involved hundreds of fans screaming out the lyrics to Vertigo and Everlasting Love. My friend was lucky enough to be serenaded by a particularly drunk U2 fan... ah to be in her shoes!!! -

By far one of the most recognizable and famous pubs in Dublin, the Auld Dubliner remains a popular choice with all ages. On the street that Temple Bar was named after, there's always good craic going on here. People are normally spilling in and out of the pub's doors and archways.
A friend of mine sings and plays guitar here and there's other great musicians who perform during the week upstairs. Live music enhances the party atmosphere.
There's decent food as well. The pub offers traditional hot and cold meals with my personal favourite being the Irish Lamb Stew. On a Sunday, you can go wrong with this dish.
The decor is worth mentioning as well. The pub has an all wood interior with stained glass windows and interesting framed pictures. The inside reminds me of an old country pub. Very quaint and cozy! -

Traditional pub. Spacious. Cozy. Best sausage and chips! Live music from 2:30 pm daily. There's a guitarist we heard who played sang and also played the harmonica while playing guitar! Played American favorites with an Irish twist!

Dublin
If you can come to this pub any night that there is live music on as the musicians are always great, create a fab atmosphere and play infectious music!
The Guinness is great here too. -
Review from Sam W.
I went for a pint here last week and asked how much a Guinness was, the Barman told me €6.50. So I said to my friends we should go somewhere else. On hearing this, the Barman immediately reduced the price to €4.80. Has anyone else experienced this? Sums up how much the pubs in Temple Bar rip people off. Apart from that, the place seemed ok - standard touristy irish pub stuff.

The Auld Dubliner packs 'em in early. They have live music acts as early as 1PM. The first time I went around noon ordered lunch, a terrifically huge plate of bangers and mash. I finished my lunch, ordered my second pint and was amazed to see the place start to fill up to capacity. It's a fun pub, pretty touristy, but then again, so is just about every other joint in Temple Bar.

great spot to be during the weekend. the bar is lively and plays great music, and clear of the clubbing atmosphere. i love the big wood bar, and the wooden tables with the high wooden stools.
we were there on a friday night, and there were loads of hen, stag, and birthday parties in the bar. each of these parties were dressed up in great group themed costumes; stag party: superheroes, hen party: sexy sailor girls, birthday party: girl scouts. their presence added a fun element to the night.
sit by the window and people watch. you'll get great views of the beauties and lushes roaming through temple bar. -

Dublin
A bit less touristy than the Temple Bar across the road but more or less the same thing. It's not uncommon for revelers to carry their pints from one to the other without too much hassle. Don't expect to find many actual Dubs in here, and there are far superior pints to be had elsewhere. I would like to cite Keoghs, Anseo and Brogans in this regard, to name but a few.
