My Yelp 'new business radar' went off as i walked down Berwick Street on Saturday. This location has housed previous food businesses which didn't last long.

Now, I have to confess I'm not really a fan of German food. However, despite this and despite the fact that I had just eaten lunch, I had to have something from here in the interest of Yelp research!

The menu promises a gourmet, 'best of the best' sausage made from a secret recipe handed down to their award winning butcher in Thuringia, Germany, home of the bratwurst sausage. The sausages have a 86% pork and bacon content with a hint of cumin in a natural casing. They also offer beef, turkey, cheese, Mettwurst and WienerWurstchen sausages.

However, the menu seems rather muddled - it almost reads like a sausage in desperate need of some new ideas about how to serve it. The basic Bratwurst comes in a German Brotchen roll and mustard. You can also get them in a wrap, in a salad, in curry sauce and in nachos. The photo of the nachos though show the lack of creativity - the photo shows a bed of tortilla chips, 3 blobs of condiments and the cut up sausage plonked on top. Another offering is 'Double Bratwurst' - it's served as one whole sausage in a roll and the other just chopped into piececs. There are side dishes too - sauerkraut, mashed potato and German potato salad.

I chose the basic Bratwurst in a roll. It was a nice sausage but I struggle to get excited about sausages in general.

It wasn't the wurst (hehe) place I've been to but the menu doesn't entice me to return

Not all sausages are created equal! The Bratwurst import theirs from an award winning butcher in Germany, which is the traditional home of the Bratwurst Sausage.

Consisting of 86% pork and bacon in a natural casing, they have a hint of cumin to add a little spice, and are served in a freshly baked, crunchy Brotchen roll and finished off with a tangy German mustard.

Customers can enjoy some new additions to the menu, including Frikadeller (German pork and beef patties), and Schnitzel (golden breadcrumbed pork steaks). Prices will start from £2.95.

The currywurst here is dire. A tiny sausage is covered in a yellow slop supposedly curry. No additional spice or curry powder or any other spices. It wasn't in the slightest spicy and the chips were soggy and chewy.

The one positive is that it had really nice mayo. Similar to japanese seasoned mayonnaise (It's called Kewpie according to Google). But that's still not a reason to try this place.

      Absolutely avoid.

Ok here's the thing about sausages .. they are wonderful, wonderful things. Here's the thing about the UK at large.. they love fresh sausages, but only the crumbly stubby pork bangers you eat for breakfast (for the record, I Iike them just fine) Why? hell, I don't know. Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, Morocco, I know for a fact all make fantastic sumptuous spitting spicy plump yummy styles of sausages to make you drool and slaver. Variety is the spice of life! So I was excited when I saw this little Bratwurst shop pop up. It was about the same time this German dude in a red tent also showed up in Berwick market with his own brand of Brat-dog served with curry ketchup which was seriously perfect, and I'd love to review him too but he up and disappeared (nooooo!!!)

So, Bratwurst. Here's the problem. The perfect sausage for street eatin' comes in a toasted bun or baguette with, preferably, spicy ketchup. That's all it needs. Bratwurst serves its' dog wedged in a funny little breadroll like you find on a continental breakfast platter.. your sausage hangs out the side like a fat man in a speedo. Maybe this is the traditional German way to have one, but I doubt it, because the other options are a wrap (for a sausage?) or nachos (for a sausage??) or in a salad (SAUSAGE?!!). Also, the ketchup could be more fun.

So, delivery options, not ideal. But the sausage? MMM. YES. So good. more spicy and complex than your vulgar little packaged franks, but finally a tight packed meaty (but pleasantly fatty) dog that won't spill it's crumbled banger guts like in your Full English.

I'm still waiting for a shop to open up with a wide variety of styles (what I wouldn't do for a Top Dog like in Berkeley, CA!) But, get a decent crusty bun or baguette and I'll be a regular here. Until then, you're just a little weird, dog.

Not really a fan of this place, someone treated me to a sausage dinner at this place, the curry I think. Was basic sausage and chips the curry sauce tasted more like a BBQ as it was quite sweet. Not the usual spicy curry that you would expect from say a fish and chip shop curry sauce.

They do accept taste card which is quite good I suppose. You dont need to ring ahead.

Not enough bang for my buck here. I didn't get enough for breakfast after I avoided the always crowded breakfast club. The staff weren't that good either and it could have been morning blues but I would have liked them to help us decipher the menu and recommend something to us - even if it didn't aste good later. I think we spent more time trying to choose food than actually eating it!

Bratwursts are to Nuremburg what deep fried mars bars are to Glasgow. I liked this place a lot and, one piece of advice, get the chips as they're fantastic. Downside? Not a lot. It's based in Soho, nearer Oxford Street than Shaftesbury Avenue, and offers a wide selection of German favourites like schnitzel as well as sausages (bratwursts). The only thing that irked me is that the person in front of me was waving a printed voucher and got free chips. Next time. Overall a great little joint and the bratwursts are juicy pices of sausage heaven.
