Walking down Talbot Street, stumbling into this pub was one of the best "happy accidents" that occurred, while in Dublin.

Sure, enjoying the Guinness and hard cider flowing from the taps was a bonus, but the live entertainment pushed me over the edge!  Two regulars from Dublin and two friends visiting who now live in Brussels.  I thought I died and  was in music heaven.  I could not help, but tap my feet and wanted to twirl until dawn!

The staff take their jobs extremely seriously and make sure there is no riff-raff in the pub.  There was an obnoxious drunk who was disrupting the awesome evening; and the next thing I knew, one of the employees came out from back of the bar and escorted him out effortlessly.  Sweet, no rude drunks in this place!

Would I swing back here if I visited Dublin again?  Double yes!

What seems like a run of the mill pub is actually your living room, it's just in-disguise. At least, it feels that way when your in there.

This, right here, is one of the reasons I love Ireland so much. You can walk into a pub and feel like you're relaxing at home. Friendly, chatty people or not, if you look like you don't want to chat then people leave you alone. A nice cold drink, some food if you want (Will have to try that next time. Their smoked salmon look good!!), and the best part... live music!! Lot's of FUN!!

    Barkeep- So what'll ya have?
Me- Cider for me and a Guinness for the lady
Barkeep- So which Guinness would you like?
Me- Say wha (looking around confused by his question)?!? As I was just about to point at the spout...
Barkeep- (Laughing)... I'm just coddin ya lad. Coming right up!

Some might get angry but I liked the guy even more for having a bit of fun with me. We must have been there for a good three hours listening to the band, I almost didn't want to leave. I can see myself becoming a regular here.

    This place is a joke.

The story of  your visit here is retold millions of times across tens of generations. As is the natural order of storytelling, the tale mutates with each retelling so much that you barely recognize it. However, it's still very much about you. It begins:

A man walks into a bar.

Even with this, the very beginning and most basic premise of your tale, the facts are uncertain. Sometimes you are not a man; Maybe you are a priest, a rabbi, a dentist, a horse or a hamburger. According to some, you were an infinite number of mathematicians.

What happens next is unpredictable. Maybe you order a drink and impress the audience with a witty remark about helicopter flavored crisps. Frequently, you aren't allowed in -- they don't serve food, strings or whatever type a serif is. You've been assaulted, drunk, lost electrons and mopped the floor. Long faces and long necks abound, you've remained sane despite complimentary peanuts. On occasion, the barman is a horse (which is unusual -- you never thought the parrot would sell the bar). With inordinate frequency, you injure yourself (ouch) and simply give up.

Your story is possibly the most retold story in human history. Who could have predicted a simple trip to this bar begun a tale of Homeric proportions filled with subterfuge, anthropomorphism, globe hopping and twist endings. Some day, you'll write that novel to set the record straight. For now, however, you're content to simply have another beer in the pub of legends.

This place is wonderful for food, boasting 'french food for feck all'. Initlally we had hoped to get a table in Le Bon Crubeen but ended up in a nice pub with a cosy atmosphere, with the same menu as the restaurant...which was great. I'd recommend everything on the menu (I'm guessing it's all savage, if the lobster bisque and haddock chowder are anything to go by). Also, kudos to the staff for being really funny and helpful. The only thing I can take away from this place is that it's slightly out of my way (it's a lot of effort to trek over to the Northside for me on a Wednesday evening...life is so hard!). It's probably unfair to deduct a star (from what's supposed to be an objective review) based on my subjective preferences and personal circumstances...but life is unfair my little lobsters!!!!!

This little gem is hidden among the array of discount stores, internet cafes and crooked supermarkets that give Talbot Street its decidedly dodgy feel. Not the greatest area for a night out on the town, but you will have a pleasant enough evening if you stick to this pub.

The Celt is a typical oldies pub, and if it's a quaint evening of drink, trad music and interesting conversation you're after, then you've come to the right place. The locals really deliver on the friendliness factor, and more often than not you're greeted as you walk in the door.

Some of the guys that frequent the Celt are considered local heroes, legends even. Get chatting to one of them and you'll see why... conversations swirl about like something from a Lewis Carroll novel, and afterwards you can't really be sure how exactly you got to be talking about boomerangs, a woman's job prospects in the construction industry and Paddy's deliciously x-rated past (Paddy is about 97, by the way).

The live music adds to the relaxed atmosphere, and everyone stops to listen (and sing along to) classics such as 'Dirty Old Town', 'Galway Girl' and newer Irish tunes like 'One'.

Foodwise, The Celt serves up a fairly decent version of Irish fodder. The Bacon and Cabbage is a must, and the stews are great too. Shoe-string fries are served in ample portions (don't try to go it alone!!)

While you're there, make sure to have a look at the budgies down the end of the bar - hilarious! One of them is always teasing the other, and they enjoy singing along to the band...

All in all, The Celt guarantees an evening of entertainment and relaxed drinking. Definitely recommend.

This was the first pub I went to after landing in Dublin, it is all what you expect an Irish pub to be like. You got your soccer and rugby on the telly and right next to it you got your classical Irish folksong players where anyone can join if they feel like it. And finally but not least.... THE GUINNESS.... For a pint (an European one - they are bigger than the American one) is the usual 4 something Euros. It is what any tourist expect to see when coming to Ireland but I wished for something more so I liked it but not really what I felt like at that moment.

In the ten years that Ive been coming to the Celt its NEVER changed
You can always count on having a good time
It a guarantee that the music will be good (even though I detest the young blond woman's voice )
I met my ex husband here but i wont hold that against the bar
For the most part everyone is friendly (although to my german guy friends ...not so much)
It was on the way from work to my house which was actually a bad thing because I rarely went straight home

The Celt Pub on Talbot Street is one pub you'll have pleasure in visiting. The pub hosts live music 7 days a week. It has the traditional ambiance of the rustic Ireland and embodies everything that you would expect of an old traditional Irish pub. Beware... once you go in, you may never leave! My favorite pub in Dublin...

My favourite haunt when I go to the old country. An evening in The Celt embodies everything that makes me proud to be Irish - you're guaranteed to have fun, learn something, dance a jig with Frank, hear a yarn and a half about the good old days and sing the national anthem at the end of the night (without fail!). Hidden away from the main streets of Dublin, The Celt promises a good night to one and all.
