The Dew Drop Inn

This glorious country inn goes back 400 years and there are many aspects that contribute towards it being the jewel of Berkshire pubs. Here are just three:


First of all, its location. Deep in the woods somewhere between Maidenhead and Henley, its sylvan setting is a wonderful place to be in the summer. In the winter, a cosy log fire make it equally attractive. I have taken guests from Germany, the U.S. and Italy there and all have been amazingly impressed.


Bubbly ladies serve an excellent pint.


As for the food, I quote their website:


By mixing traditional fare with some more exotic offerings, dining at the Dew Drop will always satisfy the taste buds. Classic offerings such as Steak and Ale (Brakspears of course) Pie and Home-made Fish Pie made from fresh cod , smoked haddock and king prawns, are complemented by the varying Daily Specials - dishes such as Sweet and Sour Battered Chicken or Wild Mushroom Stroganoff are just some of the temptations on offer.


The Dew Drop also has one or two more surprises for those walking the culinary pathway; Thursday evenings see the latest port of call in the Dew Drop's voyage around the world of food, as Thursday is International Cuisine night; and talking of ports, we mustn't forget Dave the Fish, who on Friday brings the best quality freshly caught Cod all the way from Grimsby, so that diners at the Dew Drop can feast on fresh Cod in Brakspear Batter and chips.


I don't usually eat fish and chips much these days. Our local chippies are not what they used to be and you usually need 6 Rennies for pudding. But here they do a lovely delicate batter and I am getting addicted.


Negative aspects? None really. It's right in the middle of bloody nowhere, so don't expect to 'stumble' across it: instead, see the website for the map. Ramblers use the pub, so it's fine if you ramble. Otherwise, you would need to drive.


But not necessarily! They are smart enough to run a shuttle service around the local area for non-ramblers (see also website).


I have never heard of a pub in the U.K. doing that, and neither so it seems has Mr. Google.


Superb establishment: I'd book at the weekend.

This is a lovely country pub - ideal for ramblers and cyclists! But beware, can be hard to find! There are some brown signs once you come off the Henley road - and well worth the hunt!
The staff are very friendly, the food is great value with lots of specials which seems to change weekly and they always have some great cask ales which appeals to my better half after afew hours of cycling!

The Dewdrop Inn is a picturesque 17c country pub/ restaurant; it's a friendly woodland hideaway, surrounded by beautiful scenery and numerous footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways, that pass through woods, fields and well kept farms.


The pub is family friendly and dog friendly and the food is delicious. Everything is made fresh on the premises, and the menu includes chicken liver parfait, goats cheese tartlet with red onion marmalade, and fantastic classic main dishes - which are done really well, good presentation, excellent portion sizes and all reasonably priced; liver and bacon with onion gravy & mash, beefburgers, mushrooms & spinach risotto, plus a rather large fish and chips make sure you save room for dessert!


There's also a selection of salads and various specials on the blackboard which look fabulous and offer something different.


Desserts start at £3.50, I recommend the warm chocolate brownie which comes with hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, or the yummy apple crumble and custard.


At busy times its best to book. What I love about this place is how lovely and welcoming all the staff are, you'd be hard pushed to find a more friendly and caring bunch.

When you reach my age the venue for celebrating a birthday with a meal out is not looked on with the anticipation that it used to hold. There are not many in this part of the world that I have not been lucky enough to try and there are few that make it on to my Wish to Return list. But the Dew Drop Inn does!
Haven't been here for about ten years and can't remember what it was like then but obviously didn't make much of an impression. I did remember it was not the easiest of places to get to and was at the end of some very narrow lanes amongst woodland and pretty countryside. Still the same! Large car park and now two separate beer gardens so guessing it would be busy in the summer whenever that is!
Not that busy for 8pm on a Friday night when we got there and so were seated quickly and the drinks served promptly. Nice pint of Brakspears bitter (Gold I think it was called) reasonably price bottle of wine for the ladies and we were up and running. Great selection on their menu and quite a few specials of the day to choose from. All four of us ordered differently and apart from running out of Treacle Tart on one order at the pudding stage cannot fault the meals. I went for the Banoffe with ice cream and pigged out! Good quality, well presented pub grub!
Place filled up nicely as the evening progressed and they coped well with a full house although it is a long way off silver service but there was a great atmosphere. Was treated to an extra pint of Gold, plus coffee with brandy,- not driving tonight; and that rounded off the visit nicely. Menu prices do make it look a tad on the pricey side but not really when you consider what you get. On the down side it is not the easiest place to find although I spotted a mini-bus in the car park offering a shuttle pick-up service so worth investigating that before heading out.
Of course after you've paid the bill the acid test is would you go back? Definitely and can honestly say looking forward to it. I just hope they can keep it up! Would recommend booking for peak periods as looks like it could get busy.

My husband, young daughter and I had a meal at the Dew Drop Inn in August last year while we were on a family trip to Legoland. We were camping in Hurley. The pub itself was recommended to us by the campsite owners so we visited it on the first night we were away. The pub is in the middle of nowhere but apprarently they run a minibus service to some of the surrounding villages, I've never heard of a pub doing this before and I think it's a great idea! The pub itself looks beautiful with lots of outdoor seating. We found the menu quite extensive, although we thought the prices were quite high (although we are notherners born and bred and used to things being a lot cheaper!) We also found that the main course portions weren't as big as what we're used to, but then again we found this in all the eateries we vistited while down south; it seems that you get a lot more for your pound where we're from! The food iself was promptly served and was very tasty, and the puddings were so delicious that i had to had 2! (i was 6 months pregant at the time so i had to have one for the baby too) Overall i would recommend this pub, i'm sure that the prices were very reasonable for the area and the place itself is incredibly picturesque with friendly service.
