If you're looking for something that is not super heavy Irish food, give mongolian BBQ a try!
On a trip around Ireland last summer, my roommate and I decided it was time to put the beef stew and Shepherd's Pie to the side, and find something more like what we eat at home.
Enter the Mongolian Barbecue! They have a happy hour which is SUPER reasonably priced and then their regular fare is alright priced.
If you've never had MBBQ before, you choose your meal by adding veggies and other accouterments to your choice of meat--then go for the spices and sauces and hand your culinary creation to the chef to be cooked up the Mongolian way!
Enjoy and head back for round two if you're having the "all you can eat" style!
Enjoy! -

Was there with a few of my friends last night. It was quiet and we were one of the largest tables there. How good your food tastes is down to you on and what seasoning and sauce you use. One of my friends added too much soy and it was too salty. I finally came across a good combination of mix veg and meat with salt, pepper, garlic, ginger, parsley and BBQ sauce.
We all had the all-you-can-eat buffet for around €16 each plus some soft drinks on top.
We were the last to leave around 11pm, we were there since 7:30pm. They didn't rush us or kick us out, which was a change.
Great for groups, and great value for money. Eat your fill and it's only your fault if the flavours are a car crash. :-) -

Dublin
This is a unique place in Dublin. You queue up with the ingredients (veg and meat) , add ur own spices or combine them and then add the final sauce (choice of 9 i guess). Pre-marinated meat was also recently introduced (spicy). Then they cook it up on a teppanyaki style hot plate with the meat in first followed by the veg with the sauce. Its a really healthy and very personalized way of cooking (although on a crowded day, the cooks are clumsy and mix things up).
NOT for people who might have allergy problems !!! Not for people who are purists and do no like improvising with spices.
Its a GREAT place for people who love to pick their own ingredients and make something they would love to eat. BUT,
Heads Up : If the food tasted bad here, its probably your own fault !!! :D -

Cheep grub, I'm definitely a fan!
So, for 5 Euro you get a trip to the bar, and a bowl of steamed rice. I cheekily asked for a second bowl and I got one for free which was cool.
Here's a tip - get two bowls, and use the second one to push down food into your first one so you can hold more food.
I'd be really interested to see how much money they make, it's a interesting business model. -

3 stars. solidly mediocre. but hey, it's different!
they actually have a pretty good selection of stuff to put in your bowl. my only real gripe is the sauces. why must they all, ALL, be sweet?? i KNOW mongolian bbq does not require sugar to be in every single sauce. i got so annoyed that i finally just went over to the wall of spices and made my own concoction and then drowned the end result in soy sauce. then it was delicious.
i also kinda think it's a bit overpriced simply for the fact that i'm a 120lb 5'2" girl who really can't eat much of the all-you-can-eat. so i just don't really feel like i get a good value for the bowl and a half that i can actually physically get in mah belleh! not sure what the deal Cory D. is talking about. i don't think they had it when i went.
i have to give them bonus points for the wall of spices tho. it's a great idea and it definitely saved me from having to have dessert for dinner.
actually, now i'm craving it. rats! -

We popped in here for lunch yesterday.
We arrived about 2.30 and there was no line, which was great!
Really nice man at the counter talked us through the "bowl system", ie, take a bowl and fill it with as much yummy fresh veggies, noodles etc as you can and then pick a meat (chicken, pork and spicy chicken, I think it was - tofu is also available), season up with herbs and spices, add some sauce and give it to the man at the grill.
He takes it from you and throws in on the plate and you get to watch it get cooked up in front of you...
It's pretty cool, he uses these long pool cue type sticks to move the food about and then pops it into a bowl for you.
When you get back to your table there's a bowl of rice waiting for you, and a jug of water.
Delicious and fresh and great value for a fiver.
We added a dessert (chocolate fudge cake with icecream) for an extra three euro. Yummy!!
I love alternatives to burgers and chips when I'm out, so this is a definite winner for me, I'll certainly go back for more!
(Oh, I noticed that kids under 6 eat free if two adults are eating, which I thought was a good deal).
Interesting fact - it's right across the street from the Irish Stock Exchange building!Listed in: Fast Food - No Burgers!

Dublin
Like all barbeques this is a great place to get all your mates out for a big happy meal together. You choose the ingredients and hand them to cooks who mash it all up together on the grill. It's lovely and a bit of craic as the all-you-can-eat cycle of queing, chewing and queueing again force people to mingle a bit more. You find yourself changing seats and moving around the table in a very natural way, which is great because you get talking to everyone.
A word of advice, ration the rice. This is for two reasons. Firstly; you only get one bowl, and as you become a bit more adventurous with the spices you'll need something to take the edge off. Secondly; it's alliteration, you can't argue with alliteration. -

Dublin
The Monglian BBQ describes itself as a 'interactive eating experience.' which sounds a bit well, arsey, but the place is actually a lovely spot.
Although the Mongolian barbecue concept is big in North America and I'm guessing Mongloia also? It's relatively newish to Ireland. It's a grab a bowl and create your own dish kinda place.
Basically you pick your food , meat, tofu and veggies before hand and then hand it over to one of their 'grillers' who cook it up on a giant circular barbque which forms part of the restaurant. The staff are really friendly and let us 'cook' our food for a bit when we were there. Don't worry if your veggie as they can cook tofu on the barbie and vegetarians get a free starter.
Besides being in a bit of a quiet part of Temple Bar its a great night out and makes a change from just sitting waiting for you food. Very popular with groups, which they are happy to accommodate even on Mon/Tue when normally closed, booking required for this.
They also have an early bird: Wednesday - Friday 6pm - 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 4.30pm-6.30pm -

Dublin
That's a great place to get a quick, cheap lunch which you can compose yourself. Just add different vegetables, meats, put some spices and pour over some nice sauce and then it will be grilled for you on real Mongolian BBQ. They also have some porterhouse beer in bottles and the Temple Bar one on the tap- you can a jug for around 14 EURO. Just remember not too overdose with the spices and sauces. I unfortunately did and I got a very spicy mixture;) next time I'll try to chooses just one spice and sauce;)

Dublin
Great fun is to be had here! The mongolian BBQ is an all you can eat place... while the price may be a little steep it is always a great night out and you can eat till you drop or they close up! There is a broad range of meats veg and sauces withe spices too... you thow em all together they cook it and you eat...and the circle continues along in that vein.
Really good for groups and not quite brilliant for dates... easy on the spices and pace yourself! -

Dublin
The Mongolian Barbque is a great place to head for a party. Grab your bowl, pick your raw meat, veggies, spices, fish, herbs, beans, nuts, sauces etc, present them to chef and watch as he sizzles it all up in front of you. The experience is interactive, fun and encourages much diner to diner consultation, "what are you going for? Hmmm... maybe I'll add that too". Vegetarians can opt for tofu rather than meat and they're even offered a free starter! Woohoo.
Although it's 'all you can eat' buffet style, it doesn't feel like a tacky food court lunch but an enjoyable evening meal. Dim lighting and simple yet classy furniture add to the ambience. It's lively and atmospheric. At €23.99 for the dinner menu, it's pricey enough but worth it for a special occasion. The only reason not to go is if you harbour a fundamental hatred of Mongolian food! -

Great place! Stumbled upon it while looking for a quick lunch the other day. €5 gets you a bowl which you fill with whatever you like from the bar - fish, beef, chicken, beans, bamboo, tofu and all sorts of fresh vegetables, spices & sauces. They cook it up right in front of you, give you some steamed rice and voila...quick, healthy, delicious, and cheaper than disgusting sandwiches at the SPAR. Highly recommended!

The Mongolian Barbeque has a great lunch deal on, five euro for one trip to the buffet, not bad at all. Myself, Doctor K and the Saint foolishly trotted along at 1pm to find the place overrun by Trinity students eager to get a cheap and healthy lunch, so we waited for ages to get our grub. There's a reason it's so popular though, and it's worth the wait. And it's fun! Pile up the vegetables and meats/tofu of your choice in the bowl provided, add spices as required (small but good selection; ginger, garlic, Chinese spices, coriander etc), add a couple of spoons of sauce (lemon, honey and soy, sweet chilli, black bean and so on) and give it to the guys behind the counter who stir-fry your selection in front of you. It's quick (when not packed) efficient and very healthy, virtually fat free with high vitamin retention due to the fast cooking process. Return to your table to find a bowl of rice provided and nom to your heart's content. Tasty, healthy, cheap and fun! Soft drinks are two euro a go. Service is fast and friendly. Recommended.

I really liked this spot! It's like "Choose Your Own Adventure" food, instead of books! Pick a dish off the board & choose the spices that they recommend, or completely stray & create your own. Put them all in a bowl & then bring it to the grill master to cook up. This saves a more than likely hangover when in Dublin.
