What to do when you are in an airport?? Have a drink or 2! This J.D weatherspoons certainly serves its purpose. It certainly has that airport bar feeling. An excellent drinks menu, everything from craft beers and Ales to artisan Gin's. Now they only thing I have ate here is toast so I can't really comment on the food however the menu again looks reasonably price.
So if you have a couple of hours before your travels, settle in get a nice Bengali Tiger ( or 2) plan your adventure. There are a couple of departure boards so you don't miss your flight!!
The only downfall of this place is that sometimes there is only one member of staff serving at the bar, so during peak travel this means it can get busy and queues can occur.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 25 Nov 2017
The Sanderling takes up a large space in the Glasgow airport, lining one wall of the glass windows. With relatively little choices, this option is the most like a pub/restaurant. You grab an open table, pick something from the menu, remember the table number, and order/pay up at the bar. They will bring the food to you once it's ready. They are sensitive to the fact that most people here are waiting for a flight, so there are posted flight times in the restaurant!
I had the superfood pasta since it looked like the healthiest filling thing on the menu. It was pasta with a whole bunch of cooked vegetables with some salad greens on top. The portion size was good and It was simple but delicious, exactly what I was looking for!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Louie-Mae B.London, United Kingdom480458362320 Jan 2019
Good enough service - didn't have to wait too long.
The place was clean and tidy.
The food arrived in good time at the table so we didn't have to wait long and it was cooked fresh.
However, the burger itself was dry as. We applied mayo slathered over it to make it better.
Skinny fries were nice.
Frustrating that there's not more power points about.
It does the job and is perfectly acceptable to go to for some food to fill a hole, and wait for your plane to start boarding.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nicola S.United Kingdom2512520016 Jul 2016
Went weapons bar within Glasgow airport - quick service which is required of you don't have long to wait due to flights.
Anytime I have been here it is always busy but service is never slow.
Nice booths to relax in and avoid spending in the duty free which I needed to do.
With plenty of other places to choose from in the airport this one is always the busiest which speaks for itselfHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Asia H.Miami, United States7817713329 Mar 2016
This place was pretty handy and affordable for an airport restaurant/bar! It looked a lot like other Wetherspoons branches. We weren't expecting that much atmosphere as it was about 9 in the morning. There were plenty of people though, so it had a good enough vibe. We ordered a veggie breakfast and tea. The teas came in beautiful mugs and the breakfast was surprisingly delicious! At seven pound 60, it would be hard to do better. The eggs weren't greasy, the beans were solid, it came with potato and a mushroom as well as (my personal favourite touch) veggie sausages! I find it difficult to get veggie sausages cooked well in restaurants, but these were perfect. It was a great pick-me-up for the long day of flying we had ahead.
We noticed, laughing, that there were quite a few people ordering multiple pints. This wouldn't be unusual but it was amusing to see at 9 AM!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Briony C.Glasgow, United Kingdom150612931006729 Aug 2014
You know that scene in the new Dr Who series (with Peter Capaldi, Glasgow's sauciest treasure) when he's in the restaurant with Clara, and they realise that everyone else in the restaurant is a robot?
That's what this pub is like. We walked in and BOOM - all atmosphere disappeared - it was like being in a happiness vacuum. No music, lots of sad looking people (I have no idea why, they're going on holiday!) and depressing food.
We took a seat and quickly ordered as we didn't have a load of time before our flight. I got the baked potato with chilli con carne. It was fine - edible, but really nothing to rave about. It wasn't the worst baked potato I've ever had and there was at least an attempt at a pretty salad so that's why they get 2 stars.
Apart from that, this pub is dire. A pub should be like a warm hug from an old friend who has a well stoked booze cupboard. This felt like the complete opposite (please compliment me some appropriate analogies to complete this review and I'll add in the best as I'm currently afflicted with holiday brain!)Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Charlotte D.Kirkintilloch, United Kingdom36436629 Jan 2016
Apparently it is "tradition" to have a pint before going on holiday, no matter what time of day it may be. Personally, I'm more about the food, but The Sanderling made a good compromise when travelling with my other half!
We were flying quite early so I had hoped to have some sort of sweet and filling breakfast to set me up for the day, however the staff very kindly informed me that the French Toast was on the smaller side, so I opted for a bacon roll instead.
Airports are always going to be a bit pricey, but as The Sanderling is a Wetherspoons it wasn't too bad. They have a relatively decent selection in comparison to some of the other venues within the airport and whilst they do lack a decent view to keep a plane lover like me entertained it's probably one of the better choices based on previous experiences.
In terms of airport refreshments, it'll do. They sold hot chocolate and had West's St. Mungos, so we were happy!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Austen M.Glasgow, United Kingdom528680200218 Feb 2015Updated review
Time for an update. Nothing has changed to be honest except me. They still serve great beer, the place still lacks atmosphere and it's still a pub in the airport. So why the upgrade you might ask?
It's because of the epic times that I have in this place. Yes they involve Bengali tigers and usually to many of them. But more importantly I am usually waiting to do one of my favourite things.....
Board a flight to a brand new country!
All the chat is about the adventure that is about to follow and how good the stubby cans of beer are that are getting downed before the gate comes up. Good times and I have finally realised for me this place is 4 stars.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 03 Apr 2014Previous reviewNever thought I would be reviewing an airport pub, but the current 5 star rating just does not seem quite right to me.
Had a cheeky pint or two in the sanderling on many occasions prior to catching a plane to somewhere usually warmer than Scotland.
I have never really thought if it as a pub in the normal sense. Yes it serves beer, but it is so devoid of atmosphere of any sort that I would class it more as a waiting room with booze, rather than a pub in the normal sense. Not that it's particularly bad, it's just a standard airport offering. Before my last visit I would have given it a two, but when I was there a few weeks back I was pleasantly surprised to see an array of interesting craft beers I had never tried before. Definitely improved my time prior to the flight and boosts the rating of it to a respectable 3 stars. - Glyn D.Donaghmede, Co. Dublin29315 Nov 2015
One of, if not the worst airport/bar food I have ever encountered....
How difficult is it to make a half decent Burger and chips, in this instance VERY......
Reheated chips and a dry, warm'ish burger.....
Never again.....NEVER!!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rocco G.Glasgow, United Kingdom18622727517 Feb 2015
Lets face it, your in an airport, you are bored, really bored. Every food outlet is horrifically expensive and the fancy boutiques aren't quite to your taste. However, The Sanderling run by mega pub chain Wetherspoons is a great place to whittle away the time while you wait for your flight and ponder the journey ahead.
Being a Wetherspoons, The Sanderling has very modest prices for an airport establishment and also a really decent selection of beers, ales and craft beers. In fact the great choice would not be out of place in any good high street pub!
Its not the most atmospheric of places, but lets face it, your stuck in a metal clad airport tin so what can one expect?
I cannot speak for the food, as I have yet to try it, however it looks fairly Wetherspoons standard fare. Nonetheless, it has by far the best prices and selection in the airport so its a big thumbs up from me.
Just go easy on the old craft beers before boarding, if you have too much fun you might miss your flight ;)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
