'Venue Cymru' has been the cause of some debate in the local area. If someone mentioned the name 'Venue Cymru' to you would you know what it was? Even if you know that Cymru is Welsh for Wales (and I'm sure you do) chances are you still wouldn't guess what Venue Cymru is.

It is in fact a recently expanded conference centre which incorporates the former North Wales Theatre (now offically also known as Venue Cymru).

The theatre is a modern and well equipped theatre which was purpose built to be the North Wales home for the Welsh National Opera. It has an ugly boxlike structure built on top of it (again the cause of much debate) which was necessary to hold the scenery and props required for WNO performances. There are comfortable seats, good views and a number of cafes and bars for interval refreshment. They do attract some big names and shows and the panto's are always a big draw in December. This years will star John Challis aka Boycie from Only Fools and Horses.

The venue also includes a large hall which is used for large meetings, trade shows and is beginning to build a reputation as a concert venue with the likes of The Kooks, The Feeling, Enter Shikari and Pendulum all booked to appear soon.

The rest of the building is made up of smaller meeting rooms with a number of bars and cafes dotted around. There is a particularly nice restaurant at the front which overlooks the bay.

There is a reasonable sized pay and display car park at the back which is shared with the swimming pool next door but across the road is the Mostyn Champneys Retail Park which has a large, free carpark.

This is now a very well appointed conference centre. Unfortunately despite having in excess of 250 hotels there is a feeling that there aren't enough of sufficient 'quality' to attract the big players but this is none the less a great asset to the town.

An eerily empty and soulless, if efficient place to see the stars of stage and screen in Llandudno. The place works, but despite the posh Starbucks coffee in offer, something about the place is lacking that spark of art. Plus it's on the shoreline, so you'd think that'd help.

A great theatre that is right on the front in llandudno. View is good no matter where you sit. They have a surprising number of excellent shows through the year, as well as a great panto every xmas. There is a small bar area for drinks and snacks and another coffee shop. They have also reacently built an outdoor standing arena where they have live music played by some big acts including duffy, the feeling, the kooks! Top theatre venue in north wales - (no booking fees either as you book direct!!)

Venue Cymru is a silly name (half English and half Welsh!) for a great place. They have some excellent acts here. I like the 1960's bands but there is something for everyone, and the pantos are brilliant for the kids! I find some of the counter (booking office) staff can be a little indifferent and would benefit from some training in customer service. A smile would be nice sometimes! Excellent purpose built theatre though staffed by friendly and helpful voluntiers I believe. Well worth a visit.

a good theatre, some big rooms. it is near to the swimming pool so you should check that out too. they serve half decent snacks and food and expensive beer. the shows i have seen there have all been first rate. it is bigger now than the last time i went, it just seems to keep growing. there is a glass walled cafe that gives a good view of the beach. the acoustics in the performance rooms are excellent. if you havnt been to the theatre for a while go here, you wont be dissapointed.
