If you're a gay visiting Dublin you MUST come to this party. Best night of my entire trip. Great music, quick bartenders and fun people!
I had to pay a 10 euro cover to enter an empty bar. Even though the bathrooms are marked signal Sex I found out that they are coed. The combination of being uncomfortable in those situations on top of not knowing this poorly marked policy sleeved me out. I would like to pt out the men in the women's restroom where Not in attire associated with women nor seemed to identify as women and more wanted to be in their because they could. I left the place because I felt it wasn't worth the money. They gave me my money back which was awesome. The bathroom thing got to me. So I won't be returning.
Saturday night = boogie night and Mother called. A first for me, a favourite of most of my friends and I had a great time! It's smaller than most other clubs but with a great vibe that's for sure. Music was fab, drinks were reasonable and the door staff was lovely. Dress up or dress down, it doesn't matter as long as you show up with an open mind. I can't comment on the lady restrooms purely because I was too busy to enjoy myself to check them out.
Super cool! Only place in Dublin that I visited that was anything EDM/dancelike. The crowd was nice, the music was pretty good. I would say they need to work on their ventilation/AC... It was incredibly hot in there and almost unpleasant. Drinks are decent/average priced. Cover was $10 which is also very average, and not crazy.
I've been to Mother a few times after the regular bars are closing. I think its more fun when there is a crowd of you and you are all a bit drunk. Its a fairly young crowd so maybe not really aimed at my age group. Its a basement so it can get very hot when its busy., The bar also gets very crowded and it can take a while to get a drink. I stayed for one drink the last visit and decided it wasn't for me. I would go again if I was with a crowd and wanted a late drink after but I think I would sooner head to the Czech Inn for a pint upstairs
Mother is brilliant. Don't get me wrong, there are many good gay nightclubs in Dublin, and Mother is another one too sure. It might not be as massive as some of the others but what it lacks in size it makes up for in energy. They do lots of 80s electro synthpop which I love so that alone brings me back. The staff are very nice and the drink prices are actually a little more reasonable than some of the other nightclubs in the area.
If I'm in the mood for dancing on Saturday night, Mother's the place to be. Its been a favourite on Dublin's gay clubbing scene for the past handful of years. In the two years I've been going here the crowd and music has changed some - there's a lot more straight identifying guys and girls here for the music and draw of the DJs - its reputation precedes it. Despite that, it'd be my favourite queer/dance hangout. The smoking area outside is as heaving as the dancefloor inside. The place doesn't get going til past midnight and they get some great DJs in, including Donal Dineen. It is an expensive ticket (€10 on the door) but they have decent drink deals, and you can usually get €5 tickets on their fb event cheaplist.
A Saturday gay night 80s synth pop extravaganza running for about six months now; rather belatedly I got there for Mother's Day, roused by the slogan Mother I'd Like to Funk. Promoted by the 'artivist' and multi-talented Will St Leger, hours are a highly sociable 11pm to 4am, providing the perfect core pour une nuit blanche. Around half eleven I wobbled in on my pink platforms and eyed the sparse crowd. The sounds were great but no one was dancing, so after downing a free cocktail I tottered out and called a friend. Upon re-entry an hour later the place was buzzing. Blessed emo children boogied alongside prominent middle-aged lesbians and after a series of 80s pop hits established the dancing, aurally arousing mash ups emanated from the dj booth. Now that word is out quite a few trendy straights were in evidence. Chatting with hardcore devotees, it was mooted that the particular thrill of the nascent phase was gone. Nonetheless, given the lively, friendly, mixed crowd and the pure fun dance floor, long may Mother continue to play for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Most fun Saturday night in Dublin. Prepare to get sweaty as the best disco is lashed out onto the tinchy dance floor - meaning everyone is getting up close and personal when getting hot and heavy. It doesn't make a difference if its a big name DJ or the residents(except for the queue length that can look ominous on big DJ nights), you'll always have the time of your life.
The best club night in Dublin in my opinion. If you want pure escapism and to be serenaded with the most eclectic types of music in one night - come here. From funk to disco to Culture Beat's Mr Vain - its a mixed bag of fun. The style and freedom that is on show is in itself liberating and just encourages you to have a good time. You can play dress up if you wish which I plan to do next time I go there. €10 at the door but good drink specials such as a spirit and a dash of whatever for €5. Small inside but that just makes the night even more insane.
I really wanted to like this place. But it was so dead... I've seen more people in mass. It was a Saturday so I was surprised. Friendly door staff.. But there was.3 bouncers and 3 cashiers...what? Plastic glasses...bit pet peeve of mine. Smoking on street...is another. Good music, fun people.. May try on a busier night
Saturdays this place is more than fantastic. Great music, super nice door staff, and the Djs are the best of the best. Keep it on guys!!!
