The original spot in Ybor city Tampa is my favorite.
But this is such a nice option if you find yourself in the wonderful town of Saint Armands.
It gets rather busy. However, we were able to sit outside on a spectacular sunny, southern Florida afternoon. Traditional, Mojitos are excellent always served with sugarcane.
I highly suggest their famous salad made table side. Words fail as the dressing and all of its components works so harmoniously that it makes for a meal and really satisfies.
The grilled squid was very tender. My favorite was the garlic shrimp, when I say garlic they do not skimp! Made with a particular dried red chili that had wonderful heat andflavor. They also bring warm individual French baguettes.
Service is very professional and rather old-school, which is our preference. This spot is practically a guarantee for a wonderful experience.
The spot is pretty popular with tourists. It has historical significance. Interior is typical for the area.
Service was very friendly. Southern hospitality as they say was not remiss on this wonderful spot.
We attempted to make reservations, which I highly suggest, but it wasn't an option. So we sat in the lounge/bar area. Our servers were fantastic. Excellent strawberry margarita. Mojitos were pretty good as well. The buffet is quite a deal at $18 all you can eat. Their fried chicken was incredibly delicious. Very moist and crunchy exterior had very nice spice. They make their own buttermilk ranch, which was excellent on the crunchy fresh salad. If you're in the area, this is a lovely spot. We would've loved outdoor seating, but they do not have capacity for it.
Awkward scheduling system. Had to be done the day before online despite Google stating that they're open 9 to 5, 6 days a week. Appointment made for the next morning.
Upon entry, nothing was gleaming or sparkling or fresh.
This place needs a serious scrubbing.
Chair grips were dirty.
Rug was highly soiled.
The kid working there simply humored my husband without following any of his directions about what he needed.
They don't even have a lather & brush, the kid told my husband "it's broken". Seriously? Invest in a new one.
Very rough DRY shave, no finesse no lubrication, no lather to prevent friction on the skin. Kid is staring at his phone while he's sitting there while the "hot steam towel" is in my husbands face. We were suspicious that the towel wasn't even laundered correctly.
In hindsight, we literally should've walked out.
No pride of ownership.
People work hard and they pay for a solid service to be enjoyed. Unfortunately that is not what was received here.
You've been warned...enter at your own risk.
What do I spy behind the (not proverbial) heavy velvet curtain...
Speakeasy vibes
90s hip hop
Intimate alcove seating, Chocolate coffered ceiling, c shaped bar, vintage hand painted tropical murals adorn the walls.
The two mixologists conjured bespoke cocktails with adeptness.
This little gem packs out after shows.
High energy packed out Saturday night. This is a hot little spot close to the theaters. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the lively atmosphere.
The pizza frite was crunchy w an airy texture topped with their solid tomato sauce and fresh Parmesan.
The lamb chops over risotto was a lovely presentation, but the lamb chops needed to be cooked a bit longer as they were practically raw in the middle so we sent those back. The eggplant Parm appetizer was perfection. If not slightly salty. The whole Branzino was very good. The Berkshire pork chop with its spicy vinegar sauce was a stand out. Their take on tiramisu is definitely not traditional more like Boston cream pie consistency made with cake rather than ladyfingers. Everyone loved the thick dense cheesecake.
Many points off because of the incredibly uncomfortable aluminum chairs. Our server was not attentive, seemed very preoccupied.
Mixed crowd, highly recommend reservations.
